Meet Martin Lubran of American Classic Construction in San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martin Lubran.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Martin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My first career was as a Biostatistician after nine years of college and graduating from the UCLA School of Public Health. Next, I changed careers and became a Systems Analyst working for Litton Computer Services. Eventually I joined the management team at Litton. After several very successful years working for Litton, I realized that I was really an entrepreneur and I started my own company. Unfortunately, I think I was ahead of the business community for my first two ventures which were a Job Search offering and a Mortgage match service, both before the internet. While those first two ventures did not mature, I discovered that I really liked starting businesses. I ended up helping a friend with marketing his painting business from which, at his suggestion, I became a General Contractor. For the first fifteen years of the business, we focused on local residential and eventually commercial projects. As time progressed, I realized that the marketplace was changing and the company needed to change as well. We lowered our overhead, developed a team approach and started bidding business for the Federal Government. We also became one of only a few companies like us in the USA to be awarded a GSA contract for select building materials. Today, the company is doing very well. Typically, we have several commercial and a few residential projects on going in the local Southern California area with many projects in progress for the Federal Government throughout the USA.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road but my strong faith as a Christian has helped me to overcome the challenges along the way. As a small business owner, I have to eventually resolve all problems whether I caused them or not. My faith has helped me weather these times despite the issues. I have learned that tomorrow will be a new day and perhaps a fresh perspective on the problem. Solving problems is also something I usually do well especially if I have the right perspective. We strive to get all of our customers satisfied if possible.

Please tell us about American Classic Construction Inc.
We are General Contractor’s that specialize in larger, more complicated residential and commercial projects. Our ideal client has a budget from $100,000 to $5,000,000. We sometimes will take on smaller projects but usually only for existing clients or to test a new advertising program. As a company, we insist in doing all work to code and with the appropriate permits. Our team contains experts in planning, construction law, engineering and drafting as well as all aspects of construction. We are well equipped to handle issues other companies may not want to do. We require our teams to achieve the highest levels of performance while keeping our costs reasonable. After almost twenty years in the business, I am writing a book on construction based on the knowledge and experience I have gained intended to help those with construction projects, either residential or commercial.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I enjoyed traveling throughout the world either with my family or on my own as a teenager.
