Meet Markee Murphy of Marketing by Markee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Markee Murphy.

Markee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been a creative and artistic person, just naturally. Even with that being the case, I somehow convinced myself I could not use my gifts as a career. I’m grateful that I did however rediscover my passion for creativity in college.

My freshman year, I studied Pre-Med and quickly discovered it was not for me!! I almost flunked out and took a semester break from school during this time, I took my first job in 2012 as an Assistant in my church marketing department. I knew by the end of my first day that I had found my passion!!

So, I started on the path to changing my major and began learning photography, videography, audio production, graphic design, web design, email and social media marketing.

While studying Film, Video and New Media at Florida Atlantic University I started my first business Kinetik Captures, shooting lifestyle photography and portraits. I later decided I wanted to do more for entrepreneurs and small businesses and ventured away from personal photography leading me to start my second business Marketing RBRND (Rebrand) offering marketing photography, videography, graphic design and web design.

Once I graduated in 2016 and I began working for my Alma Mater as a Digital Marketing Manager, in this role I functioned as the eyes and ears for the 22 Departments that made up Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. Not going to lie at times it felt like I was doing the job of three people. I was the lead photographer and videographer for our marketing projects as well as for events to obtain footage for future marketing and journalistic recaps. I had the responsibility of being the Social Media Manager for the department’s main social media accounts and served as a liaison to educate other social media account holders, as well as monitored and created campaigns for the 50 plus accounts within our 22 departments. Although challenging these experiences equipped me with the knowledge and experience needed to be where I am today.

I bring with me to Marketing by Markee these experiences to offer to my client’s branding, graphic design, web design and social media content creation.

It took these experiences to get me where I am today and if doing what you love for living was a person it truly is me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I learned how to deal with the struggles of life at such an early age that when it came to my business, I accepted challenges with the outlook of lessons over losses. I used to listen to this song when I was younger it goes, “Nobody said it was gonna be easy, but you gotta do what you gotta do”.

And thats exactly what I did. There was a point in my life as a kid that my family had money problems, growing up I’ve lived shelters and experienced eviction.

Once I was on my own, I never wanted to experience that again. For years I worked my 9-5 and would get home and work my six until (my business). I missed out on plenty of ladies nights, happy hours and brunches but it was all worth it.

There were certainly times where I felt discouraged but the important thing is I never gave up, because I never wanted to experience poverty again.
