Once upon a time, I found myself working a typical 9-5 job as a payroll analyst. While I enjoyed the work and felt comfortable in my role, I couldn’t help but yearn for a higher income. It was during this period that a close friend of mine was studying for the NMLS exam with dreams of obtaining a mortgage license.
As my friend embarked on his journey and closed his first deal, he made an impressive commission. Intrigued by his success, I approached him and asked about his newfound career path. He graciously shared the details, sparking my interest and igniting a desire within me to become a professional mortgage lender.
Determined to make this transition, I immersed myself in studying relentlessly for the NMLS exam. After putting in countless hours of dedication and hard work, I finally passed the exam and obtained my mortgage license. I embarked on my mortgage career in the midst of a challenging pandemic, which meant that business was initially slow.
However, I refused to let this setback discourage me. Instead, I utilized the extra time to bridge any gaps in my knowledge by watching informative YouTube videos, listening to insightful podcasts, and staying persistent in my prospecting efforts. It wasn’t an easy journey, but after six months of perseverance, I successfully closed my first deal.
In the mortgage industry, continuous learning is crucial for personal and professional growth. I recognized this fact and made it a priority to constantly expand my knowledge base, keeping up with the latest trends and developments. Today, armed with this knowledge, I not only assist my clients in achieving their homeownership dreams but have also used it to purchase my own property.
My journey as a mortgage lender has taught me the value of self-improvement and the importance of helping others. I continue to strive for personal growth, always seeking ways to enhance my skills and knowledge so that I can better serve those who rely on me for guidance and support.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Have you ever played Mario Kart? I’m going full speed on Rainbow Road! If you haven’t, Rainbow Road tracks is considered to be the most difficult course because there are tight curves, steep slopes, and no guardrails to prevent the player from falling off the edges of the track. I’m on this road to be the best and if I fall, well that’s just part of the game.
This road hasn’t been completely smooth; I anticipated the challenges from the start. When I entered the real estate field at the age of 25, I had no prior experience and still lived with my parents. This lack of experience and credibility posed a significant mental hurdle for me to overcome. How could potential clients trust me with their biggest financial purchase when I had not achieved much myself?
To overcome this obstacle, I made a conscious effort to compensate by acquiring as much knowledge as possible. I immersed myself in learning everything about mortgages, from A-Z, so that I could confidently guide and educate my clients. This obstacle turned me into a homeowner in my second year with Encore, as I successfully obtained a mortgage for my first property.
Now, I am not only looking to purchase my second property, but I also aspire to teach other homeowners how to become investors and build wealth through real estate. By sharing my experiences and expertise, I aim to provide value to others and continue growing in this field.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is when my family surprised me with a dog during a flag football game in 5th grade. Just moments before the game started, I saw my mom and brother walking towards me with a small, white dog. It was a bichon/Maltese mix, and it immediately ran into my arms. I was so excited and asked whose dog it was. To my delight, my mom said it was ours, and we named her “Punkie”. That day, filled with joy and newfound companionship, I went on to score three touchdowns in that game. It was truly a remarkable memory that I cherish.
