Meet Marina Garrett of Skin Spa in Riverside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marina Garrett.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I became an Aesthetician a little over 11 years ago now my goal was to help women and men to feel more confident in their skin by preventing aging or clearing up acne skin conditions. At first, I started with learning and using natural skincare products. As the years evolved I started using cosmeceutical products. Now I use a combination of both, I am certified with PCAskin. I use it both professionally and personally.

About 6 years back, I had started with the idea of opening my own spa that had a chill, groove atmosphere. I wanted clients to received corrective treatment without having to go to a doctor’s office but still in a spa atmosphere. It will be 2 years in October that I decided to venture on my own and open Skin Spa.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
First starting out in Aesthetics was not easy. I decided to rent a room right from the start and it was struggle because in school they just teach you the basics so I had to take many more classes in waxing and the facial product I wanted to use. I had a wonderful clientele but when I got pregnant my husband and I decided that working closer to home would be best for myself. I would drive 45 mins to work but with that being said I also had to start all over again building my clients.

Skin Spa – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Skin Spa is a boutique corrective spa. We customize each facial, treatment, or massage to the client’s needs.

All the Aestheticians are PCAskin certified and our spa is an authorized partner with PCAskin. We stay up to date with classes for chemical peels, hyperpigmentation, acne and skin of color. We specialize in age defying and acne treatments and products. We have product that are wonderful for radiation and chemotherapy patients as well.
As for waxing we are known for using some of the best products for sensitive skin making the waxing experience relaxing and enjoyable. We specialize in Brazilian waxing and eyebrow shaping.

Our massage therapist is so amazing. She not only customizes the massage to each client but uses essential oils and hot stones to complement each massage. She really is in tune with the client to help them relax and release the tension in their back.

We work as a team here at Skin Spa and really just consider each other family. We keep up on our classes to give our clients the best treatment and collaborate with each other if we have a question. Skin Spa sponsors the Walk for Life relay in Riverside.

What sets us apart for other spas is that we treat our clients like family. We get to know them and really learn about their family. Some of our clients that we have been for 10 years because they have followed us from where we first started. Not only is the staff of Skin Spa family but so are our clients.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment in my career is the opening of Skin Spa. I had always dreamed of opening my own spa and when it finally came true it was truly satisfying. But, none of this would have been possible without the support of my husband. He has encouraged me throughout the whole process and I have been really blessed.
