Meet Marianet Tirado of Jefitas Kitchen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marianet Tirado.

Hi Marianet, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As daughters of immigrants, we witnessed our parent’s bravery and determination to secure a better future for their children. Our parents have worked hard all of their lives, with no guarantee to a secure and stable future. We’ve always known that at some point, it will be us caring for them. We decided to start a family business to thank and pay homage to them specifically our mothers who have taught us so much about ourselves and what we want for life. Everything we are today is because of our mothers. Cooking has always been a passion in our family and a bonding tool. We realized if we were going to embark in a business, food was definitely the route to go.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely not been easy or smooth. We contemplated the launch for over a year. Aside of all of the hard physical labor that goes into running a kitchen, our biggest challenge has been doubt and fear. It took us long to finally accept that not only our family deserves it, but that we are definitely capable of succeeding based on work ethic and the product we have. Then, the pandemic happened. The closures delayed our launch, but it increased our desire to go through with it.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Jefita’s Kitchen, we serve authentic Mexican food. We specialize in Beef Birria Jalisco style. We took recipes passed down from generation to generation in our families and have added modern twists while maintaining traditional flavors. Our meat is marinated and slow-cooked for hours allowing the meat to attach to the flavors of the sauce. One of the things that set us apart is our red sauce. It is liquid gold. Our sauce is vegan friendly which has allowed us to create a vegan version of the birria using oyster mushrooms. We have been told by our customers that both versions are so good, it is hard to tell the difference. Our sauce can also be used to create other delicious Mexican dishes such as pozole, enchiladas, sopes, pambazos. The star of our business is definitely our red sauce, which we hope to bottle and sell in the near future. Besides the amazing flavor our food possesses, we’d like for everyone to know that when you support our business not only are you supporting us financially but you are also supporting a generational goal. Our families migrated to this country with the desire to see a better life which was a seed and now we get to nurture and grow.

What does success mean to you?
We measure success by two aspects one being the response from our customers when they eat our food that lets us know they’ll be back and two being able to build a solid foundation for our families to live out this dream.
