Meet Mariana Peralta of Glamby.Mari_ in East LA / Inland Empire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariana Peralta.

Mariana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always loved makeup as a little girl but being the only daughter & having strict parents was hard. So once I was in high school was when my parents started to let me explore with makeup. I would do friends makeup for school dances, I would do my cousin’s makeup just for fun, & just try to recreate looks from beauty influencers on YouTube.

Then once I started working after high school, I started looking into schools that offer makeup courses. So I finally chose a school but I wasn’t content. So after I got my certification, I started to gain clients here and there. I did a couple of photoshoots, helped for a Salvadoran beauty pageant, & freelanced for any occasion but I wasn’t gaining much clients as I hoped I would so I kind of lost hope and took a little break from clients but still loved to recreate looks on myself. I then thought to myself… the only way to motivate myself back into it is to go back to school.. & I did. I very much enjoyed it & got a little more confident in my work. During that time, I started working in the restaurant industry and had little to no time to work on clients because of my schedule. Working in the restaurant industry, you have to work weekends, holidays, and crazy hours which didn’t let me do what I loved.

But luckily, I have the best people by my side who has always supported me & who have never let me give up on my passion. One of those few people was my mom who is the #1 person in my life & also a cancer survivor. I focused all my time on her until finally she battled her way through her chemos & radiations In 2018 & 2019. Once that was over with, I finally quit my restaurant job and have had more time to focus on what I love & learn new things such as hair styling. Which I will soon be offering.

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely NOT. In the beauty industry it’s very hard to stay motivated. There’s so much competition now but you have to remind yourself that you have to keep pushing & not give up. And like I mentioned before, my personal life also had a lot to do with it.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a freelancing makeup artist who will soon be offering hair styling as well.

I believe that I enhance the beauty in others and make them feel beautiful.

What makes me more proud is after I finish a client & they see theirselves in the mirror for the first time & have the biggest smiles on their faces & let me know how much they loved it.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Hopefully, in the near future I become a well-known artist or have my own studio.
