Hi Mariam, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I believe that everyone’s journey traces back to their childhood. Mine was widely influenced by my mother’s creative spirit. Together, we would dream up imaginative costumes for my early theatrical endeavors, laying the foundation for my lifelong passion. In my teenage years, I boldly expressed my individuality through eclectic fashion choices, including a daring hot-red two-piece ensemble for prom-an avant-garde statement that foreshadowed trends to come. My classmates probably giggled at the time, but years later, I smiled as similar looks graced proms everywhere, realizing my innate knack for trendsetting. As I found myself naturally gravitating towards curating looks for myself and my friends, I eventually embraced the inevitable: fashion is not just a hobby but an intrinsic part of who I am and where I excel. And best part of it all, I get to do in a bridal world, where that one dress is the most important dress you will ever wear.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Throughout the journey, there were bumps and challenges, some of which I may one day chronicle in a book. Yet, I’ve learned to navigate around obstacles with a happy dance. When you pursue your genuine passions, obstacles become mere detours. And because of this you appreciate what you do even more.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mareh Couture?
I am the happy owner of Mareh Couture. It’s a chic bridal store in the heart of Central Coast, in San Luis Obispo, California. Building meaningful connections and lasting memories is at the heart of what I do. With each bride, I prioritize personal relationships that extend far beyond their wedding day. I envision them, twenty years down the line, flipping through their cherished wedding albums and reflecting on the timeless beauty of their gown choice, feeling beautiful, feeling loved. Bringing joy to others is my greatest source of fulfillment and ignites my own happiness. Guiding a bride to her perfect dress evokes a sense of joy, a feeling that resonates deeply within me as the ultimate reward. It is the happiest place, we connect, we cry, we laugh, and we just enjoy every moment of making the dress dream come true. I am also a designer myself, and bringing my design eye to the process is just the icing on the cake.
There is a dress for every bride. I firmly believe in this notion, and it’s where my expertise shines. Within just five minutes of meeting the bride-to-be, I can find the ideal dress for her. I see beauty. I possess the ability to pinpoint the dress that will make every bride feel truly special. And for that I bring into my store the type of gowns that are handpicked to please each bride. You have the boho bride, you have the sexy bride, you have the classy bride, so many different vibes, and all under one roof of exquisite collections.
What’s next?
I’m currently focused on expanding my design reach internationally. With my collection in the works, I can’t wait to showcase it at fashion weeks around the globe. More big changes are in the works, and I can’t wait to share when we sit and talk next time!
