Meet Mariam Anna Barska

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I immigrated to the United Stages in 1990 from Armenia. I have begun my fashion career after attending Fashion Institute of Technology, New York City and worked over 25 years for top performing companies such as BCBG Max Azria, Herve Leger, BEBE stores, Guess? And Perry Ellis International. I am a highly accomplished and experienced fashion designer with extensive experience building and launching well-known women’s brands.

My vision was always to create clothes that are both luxurious and wearable, with a feminine but unfussy beauty about them. My touch is especially sophisticated: modern but never cold, fantastical but always rational. I strive to make fashion that is timeless in its elegance.

My designs have been selected for editorial shots in a variety of well know fashion magazines and websites, including Vogue, Allure, Elle…etc. I have dressed celebrities and top fashion models, including Diana Kruger, J Lo, Kate Winslet, Victoria Beckham, Lindsay Lohan, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Maggie Q, Keira Knightley, Rihanna, Beyonce and more.

In 2017, I have launched my name sake label by marrying my love for design and experiences working with top performing companies. I pursued my vision to establish a luxurious season-less collection for the modern day woman. Label’s core fabric was designed and copyrighted exclusively to have comfortable stretch, holes for air flow, wrinkle-free and be sweat absorbent.

Today, the label is being sold more than ten stores in the United States. Our designs were picked for several top performing magazines and used for Tiffany & Co./Porsche ad. We are thrilled also to dress TNT drama queen Jenn Lyon in recent issue of JEZ magazine.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? Never. Fashion, in this amazing creative world of ours, there are many challenges to face. In order for us to be successful, we have to believe in what we do. We have to have strong teams that also believe in what we do. Fashion being an art form is constantly changing and developing.

Whether its cultural influences or social situations. It’s not static. There is a constant dynamic need to accommodate the change yet we need to develop forward into the future of the fashion. One of my main struggles were finding a base fabric that will have the comfort of stretch, wrinkle free and will last years to come.

It took me some years to develop my own fabric to have these qualities. Another challenge I am facing now is to find and cater the right client. There is so much similarities in fashion brands where fashion is starting to loose its artistic uniqueness and becoming more of a commercial product.

Mariam Anna Barska Inc is one of the first luxury apparel brands that started producing RTW season-less collections for a contemporary woman. Our priority is to maintain high-quality products and fit that will last years to come.

I research, design, develop and produce entire collections with the help of my photographer, Robert Wilde and technical fit, Michelle Blotzer.

We specialize in high fashion women’s collections designed in our own stretch fabrication. We are well known for our body contour silhouettes in clean, modern minimalist cuts.

We are most proud for establishing a core fabric that is unique in its appearance and as it sculpts different women’s body types.

What sets us apart is that we have established our niche in the market and slowly growing our customer base.
