Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Jessica Quiroz.
Hi Maria Jessica , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my journey after graduating from UCSB with a degree in psychology, working as a behavioral and Floortime interventionist. Those early years gave me the opportunity to understand children and families on a deeper level and sparked my curiosity about human behavior and relationships.
My own life experiences, paired with a drive to grow and heal, led me toward becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist. I often found myself asking why relationships are so complex and why it can feel so difficult to truly understand one another. Those questions fueled my passion to specialize in couples therapy, family therapy, and reunification counseling.
Today, as the founder of The Couples Therapy and Reunification Counseling, I’m proud to support individuals and families in navigating conflict, rebuilding trust, and fostering healthier connections. Every step of my journey has been guided by both professional training and personal insight, which allows me to bring empathy, structure, and hope into the therapeutic space.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. My path has been full of struggles, broken relationships, and lessons I had to learn the hard way. Becoming a mother stretched me in ways I never imagined, and at the same time, I was carrying the weight of what I had seen growing up, families torn apart, people I loved struggling with addiction, and the cycle of pain that seemed impossible to break.
Growing up in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, I saw both the beauty of community and the harsh reality of broken homes. Those experiences left me with deep questions about love, family, and why relationships can be so hard to hold together. They also lit a fire in me. I didn’t want to just survive those circumstances, I wanted to understand them and help others find a way through them too.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality that has been most important to my success is resilience paired with compassion. I’ve been through struggles that could have broken me, but instead they shaped me into someone who doesn’t give up easily. I bring that same perseverance into my work with families, even in the most high-conflict situations, I hold onto hope and guide people forward with patience and structure.
Alongside resilience, I would say my genuine heart for people is what allows me to connect deeply. I don’t just see clients as cases; I see their stories, their pain, and their potential for healing. That ability to combine strength with empathy is what has carried me and what continues to set me apart.
