Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Smith.
Marcus, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started as a private trainer five years ago. I was it’s finished shooting a web series, Life of Six, for my Alter ego, 6 Pack. I had spent all of the money I had in saving on publicity for the series and I was dead broke and homeless. I was living out of my car at the time and I remember one day just looking up through the sunroof and asking God for answers because I needed money to find my dream, but I didn’t want just any job. I wanted to help people and also entertain them as well.
The next day I was in a gym catching a shower and lady approach me about training her. She offered me a big check up front and the rest is history. Ever since I’ve been working with clients locally, in Beverly Hills and Marina del Rey, as well as internationally.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge has been juggling communicating with my audience what my brand is and what I’m about without losing my authenticity. I went from making humors skits about health to actually being a certified health professional. Getting people to understand that I do both has been difficult. One one end if I’m too funny, I’m not a serious trainer. I’m I’m too serious, I’m not entertaining and lose my audience’s attention. Walking that tightrope has been challenging for me, as I wanted to be respected, but also true to my character and personality. I figure if Richard Simmons could do it, so can I.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about ProbodyByMarcus – what should we know?
My company Probody By Marcus specializes in Weightloss. We are known for getting results for mother’s and business professionals alike. I’m most proud of my ability to reach them, genuinely connect with them, and have positive change on their lifestyles. What makes me and my brand unique if the use of humor to teach and educate our customers.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Humor, Authenticity, and Passion. I was acting long before I became a trainer appearing many national commercials, films, and national touring plays. To act as though that hasn’t been a part of my makeup isn’t being transparent. To pretend as though I don’t laugh, and enjoy life is utterly ridiculously. I see a bunch of people these days who lie to the public and only share parts of themselves to make a dollar. It’s wrong. I think people connect more with someone being a real human being, with real issues, with a real passion for helping others even while they may be trying to help themselves at the same time. My passion for finding implementable solutions for my customers drives me everyday and make me feel complete. It gives me purpose.
I talk to me many people who find themselves in a pickle; they don’t know how to lose weight; they don’t know how to find their passion, or preceded in the next chapter of their lives. My advice to them is always follow your heart. Follow your passion and everything else will work its self out. Getting results are simple, but we over think it. I believe that if we put consistent actions behind our passions, the results will take care of themselves.
