Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Segal.
Hi Marcus, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Where to begin! I grew up in LA and moved back here after college to make documentaries for A&E and The History Channel. I left LA for Silicon Valley during Web 1.0 and stayed for 20 years building companies like Emusic.com and Zynga and investing and advising through my fund and YCombinator.
I moved back to LA during the pandemic to be closer to my family. I co-founded ForeVR Games, a virtual reality game studio in 2020 and am proud that our first two titles “ForeVR Bowl and ForeVR Darts” have earned high accolades from players and press.
It’s hard to believe that two years later we have close to 40 people on the team and a whole slate of games coming out.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Raising money for a virtual reality game studio in early 2020 was challenging. Meeting in person was too risky (I look after my dad who is in his 80’s) and nobody had a headset yet so I definitely faced challenges telling our story.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At ForeVR Games we build mass-market accessible immersive worlds of play. Our games are designed from the ground up to connect people of all ages and abilities in friendly competition with real physics (you get better the more you play).
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I want to work with the most talented women and men in the industry to create virtual reality treasures — places and games and experiences that surprise and delight players of all ages and abilities.
