Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Paul.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Marcus. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started playing trumpet and singing when I was five years old, because of my father who also played trumpet and grandma who sang. Grew up around all kinds of music and being placed in the best possible situations to be the best musician that I could be. Went to Hamilton High School Academy of Music and then to USC Thornton School of Music after that. From practicing my craft, to networking, staying humble and treating people right, the right people took a chance on me to where I started to work with the biggest names in all genres of music, like Tye Tribbett in the gospel genre, Jason Derulo in the pop genre, Dr. Dre in the hip hop genre and The Yellowjackets in the jazz genre.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
After graduating college in 2013, I struggled to find a job in music until about 2016. It has been a very tough road, but when you trust in God and the gifts He gave you, you will always win!
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
My company is just an independent contractor company, to where I offer Trumpet, keyboard, and vocal services for live and studio performance, arranging and composition for all instruments, teaching and mentoring. My company is different because I love to provide life lessons and show people that it’s much more than just music that makes you successful! You have to remain humble and be fun to work with!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe too much in luck, but the belief that when you stay on the right track, do the right things, give wholeheartedly to people, that things always turn in your favor!
