Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Mentioned.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been an artist, but I had a lot of things hindering my process at the beginning. I attended Page Parkes Acting/Modeling Agency for three years, in Houston, TX. It wasn’t until my sophomore of college, I decided to drop out and move to Los Angeles. I was freshly 20 years old once I arrived here, with a plan that I didn’t really know how to fully execute at all. About 2-3 months of me being here I met, Television Producer, Jonathan Mussman. I was able to get a lot of knowledge about the ins and outs of “making it” in LA. Somethings worked more than others, but it still allowed me to be in this space of creatives. I’ve went on to be featured in HBO’s – Euphoria, Netflix – Dear White People, and Hulu’s – Sangre Negra website series… which I am SAG and IMDB credited for. I’ve had the opportunity to shoot with celebrity photographers such as ShotbySham, John Jeffrey, Artez Irvin, MG, and more. With that being said, I am still at the beginning of my career, and so excited for what’s in store.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road, but one that’s for sure worth it. I’ve dealt with a lot of things that has shaped in me into who I am today. I think every lesson is a blessings, and teaches you something about yourself. I’ve been a victim of bad contracts, being gullible when it comes to business, not thoroughly understanding direction, etc. I remember almost being completely broke and homeless, but my ego wouldn’t allow me to ask for help. It’s something about having this persona of being a “star…” It’s like a forbidden barrier to struggle, let alone ask someone to bail you out. I let those kinds of thoughts hinder me from advancing in other things.
Thank God all of those are dead and gone.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an ARTIST. I am a credited actor, model, and musician. I am known for my extroverted personality and unique style. I am most proud of my ability to communicate and create effectively. I am also most proud of the support and love that I receive from others. That truly keeps me motivated.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Los Angeles for its culture and the ability to feel liberated. LA is the city of, Live and let Live. The weather, the views, the ocean, the people, the food… all of these things and more, combined…is why I am still here. If I dislike anything, it would be my parking violation collection.
