Meet Marcella Kroll of Saved by the Spell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcella Kroll.

Marcella, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been fascinated with all mediums of artistic expression and the metaphysical world since I was a small child. After a near death experience at 18 years old, I became extra sensitive to the unseen world and energies around me. My twenties were spent pursuing a career in visual art that landed me in Los Angeles just before turning 30 years old.

After a few part-time retail and service jobs, which led to me being fired (for the first time in my life) I was left homeless and unemployed. I turned back to the only thing I knew how in order to survive. I began doing tarot and oracle readings in the back of bookshops, nightclubs and going to people’s homes. What was meant to be a temporary fix has since turned into a decade of my full-time work.

Has it been a smooth road?
While it is more widely accepted these days to be a professional witch for hire, it certainly wasn’t welcoming a decade ago. It was absolutely even challenging for myself to accept that this was to be my work. I was homeless three times in the first 5 years, had filed bankruptcy, and collected assistance for food stamps. Not to mention being screamed at by religious fanatics, and even those seen as peers, for what they believed I should be doing for free.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Saved by the Spell – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Saved by the Spell is my business name and umbrellas the many offerings I like to provide for clients. My intuitive readings are action-oriented, positive and personal.

Meaning the session doesn’t end when you leave the table or the classroom. You might get some homework from me in the form of meditation or ritual. I’m a natural clairvoyant and true empath. So I literally feel what you are going through. In sessions, I work with Tarot cards, Oracle cards, and your guides. My specialties would be my ability to identify patterns on your path that could be from past lives, the family of origin, or ancestral ties that may be assisting or hindering your highest potential. I’m not a fortune teller, while I may be able to help you see what is on the horizon for your future, my purpose is in helping you find your purpose.

Over the last 10 years, I have been invited to teach classes and workshops all over the country with a focus on empowerment and magic. This process and through channeled guidance has led me to create two divinatory decks, Sacred Symbols and The Nature-Nurture Oracle. As well as writing a zine “Cutting the Cord” and starting a podcast called, “Saved By The Spell”. I’m an also a program leader for the Los Angeles Public Library, teaching Tarot for Teens throughout the area.

While all of this sounds glamorous it hasn’t been an easy road. However, it is one I can be proud of. My sessions are no-nonsense and I’m not afraid to say “no” to a client or request that feels out of alignment or integrity with my heart. It’s not made me the most popular but it has helped me maintain my sense of peace and honors the work I do with those who are here to truly do the work. Not just to look good.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Los Angeles is a magical place, filled with beauty, and access to anything you could ever dream of. Gorgeous landscapes, amazing food, art, knowledge, nature, and rich in history. It’s a bit of a wild ride that forces you to look at your spirit and live out your soul’s true mission. Which is pretty special.

My least favorite aspect of our city is how disconnected you can get from the communities that mean so much to you due to a feeling of “always working”. I’m also not a fan of the traffic.
