Meet Marc Weinstock and Kelly Winther of Pacific Event Services in West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Weinstock and Kelly Winther.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Our story first evolved in the lighting industry almost a decade ago by installing professional holiday lighting for cities, residential, and commercial properties. The company’s quality work, detailed design, and vast knowledge quickly turned into requests to provide lighting for special events. This natural progression took our team in the direction of year-round event lighting services. As our clients and events got bigger, they asked us to take over more and more responsibility, such as audio, video, power, staging, etc. We soon realized that we were not only capable of this, but it was cost effective for the client and we were able to achieve a higher level of design and production while ultimately segmenting our business into additional markets that had large potential for opportunity and new business. This ah-ha moment is what has lead us to where we are today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been surprisingly smooth considering our company began in the middle of a recession. While we have had our fair share of bumps in the road just like any business, we are proud to say we have maintained a great retention rate with our clients while simultaneously surrounded by a fantastic team and well-rounded support system of employees and family who share our similar vision. We truly believe this combination has allowed us to grow organically and take the time to provide exceptional customer service and quality production. But like most business owners can agree, working 100 hours a week can catch up to you really quickly!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Pacific Event Services story. Tell us more about the business.
The elevator pitch is that we provide full technical event production. As most people don’t understand what that all means, we handle all of the intangibles to create a seamless live event production; from run of show, to power plans, rigging, staging, audio, video presentations, and of course lighting design. As these things are all substantially interconnected, we have evolved and aligned ourselves in a position to handle each of these aspects with our core team of specialized technicians and extensive in house inventory.

We are hands down most proud of our PES Team. Starting with our crew installers, technicians, project managers all the way down to the office support staff. Each team member brings a set of unique tools and skill set to the table which has collectively created a culture of fresh ideas and new perspectives on projects allowing us to have fun and do what we love. Each of our talented employees are confidently able to execute a high-level event while remaining professional, positive and having fun. After all, ensuring that we all have fun is why we got into the event industry!

We are proud to say with confidence that.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
As we mentioned previously, we have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by a great group of individuals and support system, who have collectively identified with our culture and helped grow the brand into what it is today. A lot of hard work, communication and collaboration has helped us get to where we are. If you want to call that luck, we’re good with that.
