Today we’d like to introduce you to Makayla Rogerson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started modeling at 15 years old when I realized I was behind my age group in skill level for competitive dance, that’s where the idea of modeling came to mind. I had my first shoot with a student at Niagara College Canada in 2016 for the purpose of her final portfolio. In that same year, I made a working connection with a local photography studio that is no longer operating, there is where I started my network in the industry.
What really kicked off my career was when I competed in SuperModel Canada Search 2019, making it to the final 25 across Canada (let me mention here that I am 5’3 and the height requirement was 5’7 to compete). At this competition, I made many connections and some close enough to call my friends today, and I was scouted to represent Canada in the Miss Progress International Pageant that took place in four months after the competition.
At Miss Progress International, I placed runner up in my category Miss Progress Human Rights for my Project ‘Safe Haven’; an organization to bring humanity back into the communities of those whom have been victims of Domestic Violence and abuse. This Organization I envision will provide resources, tools and workshops to help these individuals and their families to find & create their Safe Haven.
Over the past few years, I have grown my experience with commercial shoots, runways, and brand collaborations. I Currently am a mother of a four years old little boy, work as a fitness trainer along while operating my modeling agency R House Agency where I train and develop Models to create their own career.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It defiantly has been a challenge. Having my son while still in high school, becoming homeless and recovering from it, Toxic relationships, and lack of funding have been some of the many obstacles I have faced, but never will I let anything stop me. I am proof that you can get through anything life throws at you.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
It’s funny you ask this because I actually do quite a bit for work; I’m a Model firstly, and along with that I coach/mentor models through my own agency R House Agency.
I am also a fitness coach at F45 Training in St. Catharines.
Along with those, I am hired to create some branded content for a few companies I work for, however I do not consider myself a content creator nor an Influencer.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Making a positive and worry-free world for my family is the number one thing that matters to me on this planet. I want to make sure my son is able to experience anything that he desires, he will be on every school trip 🙂 something I wasn’t able to do growing up.
