Today we’d like to introduce you to Maia Flore.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My dedication to create a visual poetry started in my early childhood. I spent an inordinate time at playfully designing my little world, from the garden to my room in the South of France. It somehow brought the mundane life into special cinematic moments.
My life purpose of finding beauty wasn’t exactly what was expected from a family of farmers but I found my way to Les Gobelins school in Paris. Without anticipating it, I started using my body in my working process and thats how recording the journey of the red hair girl started.
I have embraced the last ten years of my artistic freedom juggling between my personal projects, art direction, commissions work and the exhibitions while traveling and relocating to different countries. My work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in more countries than I have traveled, like Japan, Korea, Brazil, Denmark, and I published my second book in the spring of 2020.
Through my relationships with publications, designers, and other artists, I have made my own family of inspiring minds who live around the globe. Today, I live in Los Angeles and continue to create imagery around this giant playground.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If ” We are a landscape of all we have seen” as Noguchi said, then growing up in the Pyrenees was a scenery of rolling roads, steep climbs and gently descends. I have the same feeling about the artist’s life journey. I love driving on mountain roads and anticipating a turn by looking at the foremost point while using senses like hearing the sound of the motor requires you to stay focus and have fun with it. There is endless possibilities to go to your destination but the detours are part of it. They equipped me with staying aligned where my heart feels it.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
What I do is creating visual playfulness using photography and collages by twisting the reality.
I am most known for the narration of a red hair girl who questions what connects us to the place we live in.
What I am most proud of as a company is my curiosity which challenges me every day.
My clients have all trusted my vision as the only request they have asked of me is: do what you want, have fun.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I’d rather “wabi-sabi” myself by taking pleasure of my imperfections than imagine starting over.
