Today we’d like to introduce you to Madoka Asano.
Hi Madoka, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
About Me
My journey in the beauty industry began during a very personal and transformative time in my life—while I was raising my child. Motherhood was, and always will be, my top priority, but I also felt a quiet calling to do something for myself, something that allowed me to grow and express my creativity. I’ve always felt drawn to the world of beauty, so I followed that passion and became a certified esthetician.
In the beginning, I worked only a couple of days a week, carefully balancing my role as a mother with my new path. I charged modestly, knowing I was still building my skills and confidence. I was raised in Japan, where the standards in the beauty industry are incredibly high. There, graduating from beauty school is just the beginning—you continue to learn by working under seasoned professionals, mastering not only technique but also the values of professionalism, customer care, and discipline. That philosophy has always stayed with me.
Though I was proud to start something of my own, I knew I needed to keep growing. I visited other salons, watched closely, and kept learning. Over time, I became licensed in both eyelash extensions and microblading, continuing to refine my craft and deepen my expertise.
Today, I run a small “papa/mama-style” beauty shop—a cozy, welcoming space where I’ve been lucky to build long-lasting connections with my clients. Many of them are regulars, and over time, we’ve built real relationships. It’s not just about the services we offer; it’s about sharing stories, supporting each other, and creating a place that feels like home—a place people want to come back to. That closeness means the world to me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning your own business is never easy—especially when life throws unexpected challenges your way. During the pandemic, like so many others, I faced financial difficulties that forced me to make tough decisions. At the time, I was managing two shops, but I couldn’t keep up with both rents, so I had to let one go. It was a difficult moment, but it also reminded me why I started in the first place: to build something meaningful, grounded in care, connection, and passion.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So I became a certified esthetician and later earned licenses in eyelash extensions, microblading, and permanent makeup for brows, eyeliner, and lips.
I specialize in enhancing natural beauty through these delicate, precise techniques. What I love most is that moment after an appointment when a client looks in the mirror and says, “I feel pretty.” That’s when I know I’ve done my job right—not just technically, but in a way that helps someone feel more confident in their own skin.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
My hope is to create a space where beauty professionals can come together, each honing their unique gifts and sharing them with others. I believe in building a supportive community, where we all uplift each other. In this industry, there is no true competition—every person is unique, and what they bring to the table is irreplaceable. That’s what makes this field so beautiful—there’s enough room for everyone to shine.
