Thanks for sharing your story with us Madison. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been into all things metaphysical and mystical but it wasn’t until I was in my early twenties did I canon ball into the world of crystals. Last year I had a very severe health issue. During this time I was more determined than ever to live my pipe dream of owning my very own crystal store and meditation space. After recovering brain surgery I got started on my business plan. A month and a half later I opened Open Eye Crystals.
Has it been a smooth road?
Truthfully, it has been much smoother than I anticipated. I thought I would hit road block after road block when in reality it felt like a zipper with very few kinks. I think this was due to me having a tight knit business plan, having one hell of a support group and (as so utterly cheesy as this sounds) me being in alignment with my soul’s purpose. One thing I’d say though is I opened probably one week too early. I didn’t have any crystal description cards ready, didn’t have bills in the cash drawer- it was a little stressful.

Open Eye Crystals not just a crystal store/meditation space. It is an egalitarian spiritual space where the crystal novice can seek an equal amount of solace and scholarship as a seasoned transcendentalist. It’s a venue for the postmodern mystic: the girl who packs both a crystal and a flask. For people of all genders and backgrounds who seek to know themselves better while also connecting to nature, a higher presence, or perhaps just a community of the similarly curious.
The purpose of this space is to serve the Mid-City community (along with the LA area at large) and expose the public to different modalities of spirituality while better connecting them to both themselves and the Earth. Crystals are natural healing tools, and we want to gently arm the public with tools for self-care, either through metaphysical items, rituals or classes. We want to give people the power and tools to define their own spirituality.
Here are a few of my favorite things about OE: -We have something for any price range. Our crystals range from $0.50-$7,000. -We have something to compliment any crystal collection. We have perfect ‘starter’ stones as well as rare gems and specimens for heavy hitters. -Almost all of our non-crystal products are made by female creatives. -We also host monthly events for our customers in our meditation room, each event having its own unique theme. This month we had our Readers and Healers event where we had a palmist, tea leaf reader, tarot, coffee reader and auric expansion experience. Last month we had our Spiritual Spa where we had cannabis massages, crystal healing, microcurrent/LED facial, crystal hair braiding and more. We like to give customers an experience to look forward to. Our goal is to top the previous month’s event.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
LA is the place to open up a metaphysical store. Everyone is so open here. The weirder, the kookier, the better.
