Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddie Marcus.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Maddie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As early as high school, I was always passionate about the beauty world. I would spend hours reading beauty blogs, researching products, testing products myself, and learning all about skin. After spending many years in entertainment industry jobs that I wasn’t passionate about, something ultimately clicked in my head where I thought about the possibility of pursuing a career in beauty and skincare. Eventually, I landed a job at a skincare and cosmetics manufacturing company. I was able to work hand-in-hand with some of the most well-known beauty and skincare brands globally which was extremely valuable and unforgettable. Although this job was such a big part of my personal growth and experience, something was still missing. I was generally feeling unfulfilled by my work and knew that I needed to do more to make a difference in people’s lives. The wheels in my brain started turning once again and I started to begin thinking about a career as an Esthetician, where I could work one-on-one with individuals needing help with their skin. A good friend offered to connect me with her Esthetician since I didn’t know one personally and wanted to pick someone’s brain about the field.
Soon after, I met Jennifer Kramer and everything changed. I immediately recognized Jennifer’s passion – it was truly inspiring and got me super excited about the possibility of entering the field. Perhaps the biggest leap of faith of my life thus far was finally quitting my job to go to Esthetician school. It seemed so risky and unknown, but on my first night of school, I was immediately put at ease and knew it was where I was meant to be. While I was in school, I also had the opportunity to work at the front desk of Jennifer’s clinic, Corrective Skincare, where I observed, sat in on treatments and retained all of the information I possibly could each day. After passing my state board exam and receiving my license, I was offered a position as an Esthetician at Corrective Skincare – I was so thrilled and will be forever grateful to Jennifer for taking a chance on me!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not! For so many years, I was plagued by the dreaded question “what do I want to do with my life?”. I took this question way too seriously and found that it often held me back from making significant life moves and taking risks. Although my path hasn’t always been linear, I’m super grateful for all of the experiences that I have under my belt. They’ve undoubtedly helped to shape me into the person I am today! As a brand new Esthetician, it can be difficult to build up your client base. It takes time, patience, and for others to trust you. It was a struggle at times, but Jennifer always taught me to put only positive energy out there and believe that my schedule would fill up. Nowadays, I’m happy to have an amazing and bountiful roster of regular and new clients – I’m super lucky!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Corrective Skincare story. Tell us more about the business.
At Corrective Skincare, I would say most clients come in looking to “fix” something and that’s exactly what we excel in. We specialize in reduction and prevention of acne, skin discolorations, scarring, and Anti-Aging. What sets us apart from others is that our approach is more clinical. Our treatments are very results-driven and educational – no bells and whistles necessarily, just simple and effective. I love that our clients leave their appointments feeling like they have learned something and have the confidence and knowledge of how to take care of their skin for life.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is a funny concept. I don’t necessarily believe in luck but instead think it’s all about making your own! I am, however, very lucky to have a huge network of loyal and devoted friends, family, and coworkers who have always supported me in all aspects of my personal and professional life.
