Thanks for sharing your story with us Madame Pamita. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been a tarot reader for practically my entire adult life. I’m also a musician. I created a vaudeville act called “Madame Pamita’s Parlour of Wonders” where I would play old music from the ’20s and ’30s and read audience members’ fortunes. From there, I open my own store where I sold handcrafted beeswax spell candles and other spiritual supplies. First I was in Santa Monica, but then I moved to Highland Park in 2014, where I share a space with my friend Jen Hitchcock of Book Show. We have a magical little carnival of weird old books & zines and a spiritual apothecary.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I definitely learned a lot in my business journey. I started out with a very small one room office, then moved to a big storefront in Santa Monica. Finally, I realized the right fit for me was having a space that I shared with a like-minded friend. I was like Goldilocks, first too small, then too big, then just right!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I offer very positive spiritual gifts and items that can only be found in my shop. Lots of gorgeous hand-made, molded beeswax candles. I also sell crystals, candles and spiritual oils from other makers who I admire, a little magical corner in the shop where people can just drop by and pick up something for themselves or a gift for someone else. We also have a huge mail order business that ships worldwide. I think what sets us apart is that we are quite positive and everything that we make, we do so with love.
What were you like growing up?
I was a magical child from the start. I picked up my first tarot deck at age ten and never looked back. I would read every book on alternative spirituality that I could get my hands on, from ancient Greek gods to modern day magic. I was a book, magic and music nerd.
