Meet Macy Gray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Macy Gray.

Hi Macy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started playing in college in a jazz band. After college, I started a rock ‘n’ roll band, and we played Sunset Strip. One night, someone from Atlantic Records walked in, saw the show, and offered me a record deal. That record came out, but about three years later I was signed to Epic Records who released my first album: Macy Gray on How Life Is.

Since then, I have made about ten albums, sold a bunch, and picked up a Grammy. With my new album, I partnered with the best musicians I know. We went into the studio and made our upcoming record called: THE RESET. It is super epic, and I am very excited to show the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a wild ride of ups and downs and incredibly perfect moments and incredibly wrong moments. But I would not trade one of them. I learned so much, and I finally figured myself out.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
There are many achievements that I am proud of throughout my career as an R&B and soul singer-songwriter, musician, and actress.

Some of my recent projects included my newly-released singles “Thinking of You” and “Undone”, which serve as the debut of my new ensemble, Macy Gray and The California Jet Club, a collective composed of myself and bassist Alex Hyhn, drummer Tamir Barzilay, and keyboardist Billy Wes.

I am most proud of my kids and my music. I think God blessed me so much. I am an artist because I think differently than a lot of people, and I have been lucky enough to know how to put those thoughts into music.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is satisfaction. To be able to look around and be satisfied with where you are, who you are with, and what you have. Success is unique for everyone. I do not think it has anything to do with money or fame.
