Today we’d like to introduce you to Luther Toston.
Hi Luther, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m from a small town in Louisiana where I was raised by educators, including my dad who was a music teacher. I later graduated college with a degree in Recording Arts, and moved to L.A. afterwards to pursue a career in the music industry.
Almost immediately I ended up switching gears and following opportunities in the tech world, where I became a Fortune 100 executive by age 25.
After a 12 year career in tech I returned to my roots to pursue my passion for the entertainment world, but this time as a talent manager for LGBTQ artists. OMNI Entertainment Group is my agency and one of the few (if not only) black-owned, queer-owned talent management agencies in the industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Gaining visibility for what I do.
Attracting top talent to build a lucrative roster.
Raising funds to self-produce shows and tours for my artists.
Being self-employed with no steady paycheck or benefits.
Doing it all with little to no help over the last 8 years.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At OMNI we specialize in providing LGBTQ talent for all kinds of entertainment productions and events. We also help to develop those artists and connect them with new opportunities and resources.
We represent live performers, drag artists, recording artists, photographers, videographers, filmmakers, screenwriters, pro MUAs, SFX makeup artists, event hosts, reality tv personalities, choreographers, and more.
Being one of the few, if not the only, black owned queer-specific talent agencies in the world definitely is one thing that sets us apart from the rest of the industry.
Maintaining and growing this agency since 2017 is something I’m proud of. We’ve provided talent for various shows on major platforms and some of the world’s biggest stages (ex: Central Park’s Summerstage, the Moulin Rouge, etc.).
We want the world to know we’re here and ready to be booked and busy!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Visit bookomni.com or email info@bookomni.com to request our roster.
We are also open to creative collaborators (music, film, etc.) who seek to feature queer talent in their work.
