Today we’d like to introduce you to Christinaa Danks.
Christinaa, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
One random day, I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw people playing with literal goop. What craziness is this? I was confused at first because who wants to play with a glob of condensed glue, but the more I delved into the community the more mesmerizing and addicting it became.
I was officially hooked and the screaming ten-year-old inside of my 28-year-old body immediately went to store, bought some glue, made some slime, and posted a couple videos on Instagram…it instantly blew up. I really wasn’t going to make it a business, but people started asking me to sell my creations, so here we are. Luminati was created by mistake…a product of my inner child.
It’s amazing how social media has made stories like yours possible! Making and selling slime sounds like an amazing way to earn a living. Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not. There were times when I wanted to give up. I would sit in my living room screaming, “WHAT DO I DO??? I DON’T UNDERSTAND ANY OF THIS!” I had no idea how to start a business, how to purchase products in bulk, how to package, and where the heck to get all my materials. I also didn’t know where to get the money to purchase everything, so I decided to start small and funnel that money back into the business because you know, I’m such a business guru.
It took at least 3-4 restocks before I really understood how to price my products and set up shipping options, so a quick shout out to my first couple customers, I’m sorry everything was such trash, and thank you for continuing to support me. I had to teach myself how to film and edit videos, edit photos, ship products, build websites, design and produce labels, etc…there were many long nights but look at me now. I’m a jack of all trades, but a master of none…I was also doing all of this on top of my 9-5 job and school. It was a pretty hectic couple months in the beginning, but now I am SO HAPPY I did it.
Definitely makes sense that there would be some trial and error, I think that’s expected in any business. Glad to see you figured it out pretty quickly and have built a successful business. What else should we know about Luminati Slime?
Luminati Slime is a slime company, duh. The slime community is a small but tight-knit community. I’m really hoping to spread the word about slime because it really is an amazing product, whether you buy it from other shops, or make it yourself. Each “slimer” puts their own special touch on their homemade slimes, and each slimer most likely has a secret ingredient. The possibilities are endless and I think that’s why so many people continue to purchase the products.
Personally, Luminati Slime is known for aesthetic and “inflating” slimes. Inflating means the slime starts out as one texture, and as you play with it, it changes into a fluffy, cloud-like consistency. I hope I didn’t just lose everyone there. People also recognize my shop because of my intricate nail designs. I promise you, check out some of the videos on my Instagram or Youtube page, and you’ll be hooked.
Also because I work very hard on my content, and I’m so proud of it! You get to watch ASMR content for free…everyone loves free! There is definitely a learning curve when it comes to slime, but everyone in the community is so sweet and willing to help. There’s also a lot of instructional videos on the internet.
Who else deserves credit – have you had mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, clients or teammates that have played a big role in your success or the success of the business? If so –who are they and what role did they plan / how did they help.
I really didn’t have anyone directly help me start my company, mainly because everyone thought I was insane for wanting to sell “slime”, but my mom and my boyfriend are without a doubt my biggest cheerleaders. They both come to every convention I go to and help me sell my products.
