Today we’d like to introduce you to Lukas Silva.
Hi Lukas, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, my family moved around a lot, but we eventually settled down in Nevada when I was seven. However, during that period of change, I had a difficult time sleeping due to severe anxiety attacks. My struggle with anxiety affected me daily and led me to become overweight during my childhood. However, I am thankful for this experience as it gave me a unique and valuable perspective on life. I am grateful for the lessons I learned during that time, and I believe they have helped me to become a more resilient and compassionate person.
At the age of 13, I made the decision that being overweight was not the person I wanted to be. I started exercising and participating in any sport I could find, but my parents were often busy and unable to assist me with transportation. So, I took it upon myself to walk, run, or bike the 2 and a half miles to and from the gym every day, without fail. I committed to working out seven days a week, for three hours each day, and focused on maintaining a ‘healthy’ diet consisting of salads. This rigorous routine helped me to transform my body and build a new sense of self-confidence. But despite my dedication to physical fitness, I soon realized that I was neglecting my body’s nutritional needs. As a young teenager, I lacked the knowledge and understanding of what a balanced and healthy diet consisted of, and I found myself frequently feeling depleted. It was a difficult realization, but I recognized the importance of nourishing my body with proper nutrition to complement my workout routine. At the time, I was young and naive, and I based my approach to fitness on the first thing I saw online. Unfortunately, this misguided approach led me down a path of developing body dysmorphia, where I always saw myself as the overweight kid I once was, despite my progress. Overcoming this issue has been a challenging journey, but I am committed to working towards accepting myself for who I am and feeling confident in my own skin. I am actively taking steps to overcome my body dysmorphia and hope to reach a point where I can look at myself in the mirror and be happy with how I look. This experience led me to educate myself on healthy eating habits and make necessary changes to my diet and workout regime.
In high school, I discovered my passion for film and acting through a video production program. This led me to my first film set at 17, where I played a pirate in a Halloween party scene. From there, I became an anchor for our highschool news channel, competed in national speaking competitions, and even began creating short films of my own. After gaining valuable experience in acting and video production in my hometown, I felt inspired to pursue my passion for film and acting on a larger scale. I knew I needed to leave my hometown in order to build the future I desired. After graduating, I decided that college wasn’t the path for me, so I took the leap and moved to LA to begin pursuing my dreams.
I moved to LA in 2021 with my roommate and fellow actor Luke Clark, where I was introduced to the competitive world of the entertainment industry. Although I felt like a little fish in a big pond, surrounded by people with more impressive resumes and connections than me, I was excited to push myself and grow as an actor. However, I knew I needed to make ends meet without sacrificing my availability for acting opportunities, so getting a 9 to 5 job was not an option for me.
To make ends meet, I worked as an Instacart driver and a background actor in LA. While it wasn’t glamorous, it allowed me to keep pursuing my acting career until financial difficulties forced me to reevaluate my options. I eventually became an entrepreneur, focusing on creating UGC content and building my influence on social media. Through my experience working in UGC, I was able to climb the ranks and become one of the top male creators. Through these experiences, I gained a better sense of direction on how to climb the ladder of success in the entertainment industry.
In the year 2023, I’m on a journey of networking, growth, learning, and rapid career advancement. Although the big leagues were initially overwhelming, I was able to find my footing and now I have a clear vision of the type of actor I want to become and where I am headed.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Despite not being the hardest of life stories, my journey has had its share of struggles in terms of my mental, physical, and social health. As a child with anxiety, I was hesitant to step outside my comfort zone, but I eventually pushed myself to overcome my boundaries. Being an athlete, I’ve experienced injuries and physical setbacks that challenged me. Additionally, my social anxiety was fueled by my negative self-image, but working out helped me feel confident, even though I still struggle with body dysmorphia. Although I still see the insecure kid in the mirror, I’m learning to appreciate my progress and become the best version of myself.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an artist, I’m all about self-expression and making a statement. I don’t believe in holding back or staying in the background, and that’s what makes me stand out. While acting is my primary focus, I also dabble in modeling, content creation, fashion shorts, directing, writing, editing, and shooting. My proudest achievement so far is starring in my first film, “Carp-e Diem.” The experience of getting cast, filming, and seeing myself on the big screen was truly unforgettable. What sets me apart is my unyielding optimism. Acting and pursuing any creative passion requires constant perseverance and resilience, but my optimism keeps me dedicated, driven, and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve my goals.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My parents deserve the universe for everything they have provided me in life. They have raised me to become who I am today, instilling in me my values, drive, and caring nature. Their unwavering support for my ambitions, starting from the day I said I wanted to move to LA to pursue my acting career, is something I will always be grateful for. They are the people I can turn to for advice, something that is all too rare these days. President of Seattle Talent, Hank Ritter has also been an immense support for me since he met me when I was just 16 years old. He saw something in me and chose to support my ambitions in any way he could. I look forward to being able to repay him for his kindness. Mr. Bowers, my video production teacher, allowed me to experience being on camera, working with crews, lighting, scripts, storyboards, and bringing a character to life. He will always hold a special place in my heart as I pursue my future endeavors. Finally, my first acting coaches, Holly Lorge and Waters, were instrumental in helping me step out of my comfort zone and navigate the crazy world of acting. Finding the right teacher who sees your potential and wants to help you cultivate it is invaluable.
