Meet Luigie Gonzalez of True Makers Music Group in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luigie Gonzalez.

Luigie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Begun studying music when I was 4 years old. Eventually, I went to Berklee College Of Music in Boston to study Arranging & Production. I graduated in 1998 and then moved to Los Angeles California to work with legendary Latin singer /Songwriter Juan Gabriel. After working on two records for him, one of them went double platinum and #1 in Billboard and got me a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Album of the year.

After Juan Gabriel, I moved back to LA where I started remixing every A-list artist I could possibly remix from every record label. That included Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Ricky Martin, Donna Summer, etc. After so many years remixing, I went back to production. I started working for Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. I had the opportunity to work with Janet Jackson and some other great Asian projects.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. To try to make it as a successful musician, coming from a whole different country and being so young in the music production business was incredibly tough. To stay current, working and fresh as far as my music ideas, is something so important for people in my line of work.

True Makers Music Group – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is True Makers Music Group. We specialize in artist development. We take care of all the music production and image of the artist. We negotiate digital and physical distribution for them as well.

I’m proud my company is producing projects for different markets such as General, Latin, Asian and European market. We had a top 30 hit last year in the Latin Market independently funded with artist Casilda Santamaría from Spain.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success is being able to do what I love every day of my life and see people enjoying it. Quality and authenticity are key! Auto-motivation and trust in yourself makes a huge difference when times are hard.
