Meet Lucy Yeh of Lucy Yeh, CLC, CMT in West Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Yeh.

Lucy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
20-something years ago (yeesh!), I was a Recruiter and HR Director, working internally and externally within multiple industries. I was in my 20s, and had all this energy and was just fascinated by all details of people’s stories. Cultural fit and longevity is key in picking the right hire – so in learning about a candidate’s interests and history, there was often a mismatch. If they weren’t right for the job, my fascination (and my compassion for not offering them a job) took over, and interviews often turned into impromptu career coaching sessions.

Through the years, those times became the highlights of my workweek. As my years in recruiting went by, candidates who I didn’t hire would contact me or see me at networking events, and thank me. Whatever I had said changed the way that they looked at their possibilities for work. Some had even switched their career focus completely, to something they never had considered before – and was making them happier than ever.

At a time when “career coaching” or “life coaching” wasn’t a thing, my favorite part of what I did was something that wasn’t in my job description.

Working crazy hours in the .com space burned me out, so in 2001 I quit my job. I was in poor health, sleep deprived, and my own life had no balance. I discovered Ayurveda – an ancient Indian medicine practice that incorporates herbs, healthy diet, bodywork, and lifestyle guidance to support and maintain oneself. I immersed myself in learning, experiencing my own body and life coming into balance in the process.

As I practiced Ayurveda, clients would inevitably talk about their jobs as the root of their stresses, when they learned about my HR and recruiting background, they would excitedly delve into the intricacies of their work challenges, and that same joy that I felt from previous impromptu coaching sessions returned.

At that time, I had no clue how this would play out into a business. I was just enjoying all the learning, and all the opportunities to give back.

In 2005, a friend of mine noticed this new thing called Life Coaching – and we both got certified together.

Over the years, my private practice has evolved into a dual offering, which perfectly represents my knowledge, experience, and belief systems.

Has it been a smooth road?
When I first got my Life Coaching certification, it was 2005 and barely anyone had heard of that title. I got a lot of “Is that a real thing?” and “What IS that?” types of questions. It was much more complicated to explain what I do to prospective clients back then.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am proud to offer a range of services that support others to live their best lives.

Career and Life Coaching:
For individuals (traditionally employed, consultants, entrepreneurs), I: craft career paths, strategize growth opportunities, create marketing and partnership plans, improve communication styles, solidify interpersonal connections, optimize resumes & interview prep.

For growing businesses:
Identify gaps in processes or workforce, create job descriptions and recruit, mediate employee issues, provide coaching for all levels of title, facilitate employee transition during company takeovers or layoffs, and assist with all facets of multiple location growth.

Wellness and Balance Coaching:
I combine wellness coaching with cranial and myofascial work, as well as intra-oral treatment for TMJ and bruxism (oftentimes a result of high stress). Areas of focus include: proper sleep positioning, life balance, mindfulness and meditation, diet, herbs and supplements, exercise, boundaries setting and compassionate communication for better relationships, and self-care.

When I work with clients who are struggling to find more satisfying work, I find myself referring back to my own story to highlight how important it is to follow your passions. It may not be immediately obvious where your path will lead, but I strongly believe that we can give in a way that makes our hearts sing, and live balanced and happy.

To this day, I am still fascinated by the details of all my clients’ stories! 🙂

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is home to a wealth of industries that support individual growth. I’d say this to any self-improvement, wellness-related or coaching-related business: Los Angeles is the city to find your people.
