Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucie Klimes.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been an interior designer professionally in LA for 12 years, but it has been a part of my life forever as my mom is an amazing tastemaker and homemaker. I’d like to say I’ve worked for the greats! I started out with Shari Creed at Creed Strategic Imaging, with a focus on branding and packaging design where I later had the opportunity to work on Bruno Mars’ home as my first residential project. I then got into the world of estate management in the Hollywood Hills and Malibu, working on estates with a worth ranging between 10-30 million dollars. Following this, I worked as Pamela Shamshiri’s assistant at Commune Design. Shortly after, I left with Pam to help her start Studio Shamshiri, where I came on as her Studio Manager. Here, I helped build what is now recognized as one of the top interior design firms in the world. I worked alongside her for seven years. I then left to take an opportunity working for Willo Perron as his Director of Interiors at Perron-Roettinger, where I was introduced to working with clients in the music industry. I branched off independently in 2020, and I have been growing my business, LucieProject, since then.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have worked alongside an amazing network of people that have led me to incredible projects and collaborators. Of course, things are never always smooth doing design work in LA at this level. Dealing with big personalities in the creative world, I’ve faced a lot of strong-willed people, which has been an exciting challenge.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My role as a designer in LA can be summarized as being a creative for creatives. I specialize in taking directives from clients and executing them to create beautiful, functional, timeless spaces for them, with a focus on bringing in sustainable practices and materials wherever possible. Collaboration is a huge part of my process. I value bringing teams together to complete a project start to finish.
Most recently, I found a new niche in recording studio design, where residential sensibility merges with sound engineering. In these spaces, it’s important for me to incorporate the perspective of the artist who will be using the space.
My portfolio expands across residential, hospitality, commercial, and retail environments, as well as furniture and lifestyle product designs. Many of my clients are directors, producers, musicians, and entrepreneurs.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always very creative, competitive, and athletic. I loved being a part of a team. As described by my mother, I was sensitive, thoughtful, observant, and adventurous. I was always trying new things. However, my favorite hobby was horseback riding, which I have continued to do in my adult life.
