Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucee Cesena.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lucee. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up traveling the country in a christian dance group. I grew a love for freedom being in this space. I never lived the same day twice. As I grew older I realized the world doesn’t always work this way. You grow up, you get married and you get a job. You know, a 9-5. So I started my career at Bally’s gym. I worked for commissions and realized I couldn’t stay at one place to long. I moved around to a couple different jobs. This time I was in customer service for banking. I then moved on to work for a payroll company as a sales rep. I LOVED the freedom that being out in the field brought me. Although I was great at sales it was solely due to my relationship building and having business owners trust in me. I was so busy building relationships and not focusing on the sales day to day, because my philosophy is if they trust me the business will come. No one is going to just give me what I want if I walk in as a stranger off the street and ask them for it. But if they know me and my work and trust me they will always come to me. So, with my focus on building partners this payroll company FIRED me! Me!!! I was devastated. I was a single mother with two very young girls and no real education. I only knew I was good at meeting and talking to anyone I came across.
In my time at the payroll company, I came to understand that most business owners really don’t understand what goes on in starting a business and keeping that business in compliance. Around this same time, I had met a guy who loves business! When I say love, I mean the kind of guy that eats, breaths and sleeps business. I having no clue how to be a business owner found him very interesting and even more motivating. I didn’t know what I wanted to do or what I was going to do since I was fired. All I knew was that the only job I could get would be something in sales. I didn’t want to spend my life working for a company selling a product that benefited the owners and never really appreciating me.
I learned so much from working at this payroll company and even more from the people I placed around me. With the help of my new friend Kevin Hellon II, I started my own business! In 2011 Nobility Consulting Services was started.
Since then I have built my business one partnership at a time. I created amazing partners at both Chase and Wells Fargo. So if you are a new business owner and need to start a business in the Pasadena area most likely your banker will hand you my business card to help you set up your company, I work with over 20 accountants and CPA’s along with other business consultants that help business owners in various industries. I have since partnered with that same friend that helped me so long ago Kevin Hellon II and his company The Hellon Corp. With his business, I am now able to bring a whole new service to my start up businesses. We are now able to build our strategic marketing plans, websites, and even mobile apps. The list goes on with all the business services we are able to provide to a new start up business or to even one that has been in business and just needs help growing it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been a smooth road. You never know when business is going to come and when it is going to go. It’s not always easy to have someone trust you and your work. It takes time for an accountant to trust me enough to hand over their clients for me to help. It has taken years to grow my business banking partners and also gain their trust in allowing me to help their clients. There have been months when I didn’t think I would be able to pay all the bills and then there have been months that have blown me away with the amount of business that has come in. It is definitely a roller coaster of a ride. But I love it and I wouldn’t change it.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Nobility Consulting Services story. Tell us more about the business.
Nobility Consulting Services is a business consulting firm that specializes in setting up brand new businesses. We do everything from setting up the DBA’s, LLC’s and forming corporations. Once we set up the business we build out the company’s identity. That starts with a great professional logo, design and print business cards and building out the company website. We build our strategic marketing plans help with social media and even develop mobile apps. We also assist with setting up the businesses payroll and workers comp needs. I am most proud of the relationships I have been able to build out for Nobility. I am also very proud of the fact that I am the only person in my company that has done this all. I have gone out there day after day walking into different accounting and CPA offices just introducing myself and building relationships and getting them to trust in me and my business. I have also grown my banking partnerships and that is not an easy thing to do when you are a small company that no one has ever heard of. So I am VERY proud of what I have been able to do and will continue to do.
Now, what sets me apart? Why shouldn’t you go to a company like legal zoom? Because legal zoom doesn’t have me. You will NOT get that one on one consultive relationship and help along the way and for the duration of your business. I help my clients stay on top of their business compliance year after year and saving them that awful $250 penalty fee that the Franchise Tax Board loves to give out. I care about each client I come across and I truly want each business to succeed. I know I am the business that can get them there!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
This is a tough question. I don’t believe that you are ever lucky or have bad luck. You either work or you don’t. If I am not out there visiting my partners or going out and getting new partners then my business will not grow. If I am not planting seeds then there will be no harvest.
I do however believe that if you continue to work, good things will fall into place. So just always keep moving forward, stay in your lane and work!
