Meet Lucas Rossi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucas Rossi.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I first picked up a camera when I was 11 years old and I haven’t put it down since. My uncle was an automotive photographer and was a huge inspiration to me growing up. At first, I would bring my camera any and everywhere, taking photos of flowers, trees, clouds, leaves – you name it. I was always super curious and hungry to learn, looking everything up on the internet in order to teach myself, rather than have someone else teach me. I credit Google and YouTube as my schooling. I eventually began taking photos of my friends, and as my mom owned her own dance studio, I started to take photos and headshots of her dancers. Not entirely sure of where I wanted photography to take me, as I continued to grow, editorial photography piqued my interest and I had the opportunity to work alongside my brother, an entertainment publicist. Photographing a number of his clients for magazine covers, editorial spreads and red carpet events, along the way, I gained invaluable knowledge and experience in a variety of lighting scenarios.

Meeting a friend soon after, who was wedding photographer, at first, I’ll admit, I didn’t think much of wedding photography. I thought it was an easy gig and that there was little creativity to it… but, boy was I wrong. After second shooting a wedding with him and seeing all that goes into the art of wedding photography, I was quickly proven wrong. Intrigued and inspired, I continued to work with him and other photographers while learning the ropes of the industry, until I felt ready to embark out on my own. Then, when I was 16, I shot my own solo wedding and have been happily in business ever since. My fiance, Katy, has been an enormous part of helping build my company throughout the years, and just this past 2019 season, she began second shooting with me. I’m super excited to have her by my side on a wedding day, as her attention to detail, creative eye and personality doesn’t only make my day brighter, but brings joy to my couples as well!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I will say the biggest challenge for me has been my age. Starting out so young in this industry certainly wasn’t easy, and I feel like I’ve definitely had to prove myself more than most, but I’ve continued to stay motivated and inspired by the amazing people in my life. I’m lucky to have incredible family and friends.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a wedding and portrait photographer with a love for natural light. Dedicated to capturing timeless, romantic images for my couples that they can love for years to come, I couldn’t be more in love with what I do. I am a people person to the core, so what I believe sets me apart from others is my personality and ability to truly connect with each and every one of my clients. It’s much more than just the wedding day to me. I’ve also recently created a second business venture with my brother called Rossi Bros Media. We specialize in corporate and special events, offering photo, video and event production. It’s been a lot of fun so far and it’s super exciting to get to work together again!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, my mom definitely had her hands full. I was busy. Always an adventurer, if I didn’t have my camera in hand, I was playing some sort of sport – basketball, football, soccer. I was incredibly active and constantly scaling mountains and trees. I still do to this day. My fiance, Katy, is always terrified at engagement sessions when I’m on the edge of a cliff over the ocean just to get the shot. It’s the daredevil in me, I can’t help it.
