Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucas Roelen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The origins of how I got into the entertainment industry started when I was very young. Practically from when I was five, I began in musical theater and small community performing art shows that my mother signed me up for. She could tell from a young age that entertaining others and making others laugh was what I was meant to do with my life, and I knew it as well. Fast-forward fourteen years to today. I’m still developing my personal marketability as an actor and brand as a writer and producer, but I am still leaps and bounds from where I started. Today I have a terrific support circle of mentors, executives, and friends that I know I can count on and have helped me up until this point both with providing me verbal guidance to help me navigate a turbulent industry, as well as business associates that have tossed me opportunities that I know are out of my own hands. I am thankful for this day of those opportunities, but this is only the beginning!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The journey to having gotten where I have come so far, which is still only the beginning, has been everything but smooth. I think the biggest thing so far for me has been creating a group of mentors, business partners, and friends that all support what I am doing to the fullest and having business partners that you trust in. In the entertainment industry, I am learning pretty quickly only a few people show their real selves, so weeding out the bad from the good is the toughest.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Envision Pictures?
Envision Pictures is a media development and production company based in San Diego, California founded by myself. I am a nineteen-year-old actor, producer, and writer who has already produced my own mini-series, multiple award-winning short films with thousands of views, and a writer for multiple feature films. I am on the mission to develop content that will not only tell compelling narratives but bring fresh perspectives into the feature film and television marketplace that aren’t otherwise being developed through traditional studio systems. The market served by Envision Picture’s content will be the teens (13-18) and young adults (18-25) as this is the demographic that buys the most movie tickets and goes to the theaters most frequently out of any other age group. Additionally, this demographic uses social media the most out of any other age group, so the content we create is made for this audience, then there will be a significant marketing advantage.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
If you aren’t taking risks, you’re not progressing. If you aren’t progressing, you simply aren’t reaching where you want to be in life. Simple as that. When you risk yourself in situations and in life, you are continuously failing, learning, and trying again which leads you closer to your overall objective. Risks in life should not be viewed as risks but as terrific learning opportunities that can provide a terrific ground to learn. If people switched their mindsets from, “Oh, that seems incredibly risky, I could never do that” to become, “Oh, that seems risky, but if it pays off I know I’ll be a lot happier with myself knowing I at least tried.” The real risk in life is not trying at all due to fear. That’s the biggest risk of all. So far, my biggest risk in life has been dedicating practically all the time I can towards writing films, producing projects I believe in, and growing myself as an actor. The time I’ve put in has definitely been my largest risk.
