Meet Lucas DiFabbio of Dunk Rock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucas DiFabbio.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a producer, I started making beats in 2009 on GarageBand and continued making beats through college where I started using a program called Reason.

In 2014, I graduated from college and started taking music more seriously traveling to different events in Atlanta and Philly to attend beat battles. At this time, I was living in Maryland. Summer of 2017, I decided to quit my 9-5 sales job and move out to LA to really make it happen.

Ever since I’ve been on the grind, networking, working with new artists, jumping in sessions. The move was challenging at first trying to figure out LA life, where I was going to live and everything, but it all worked out.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Initially getting settled in LA was tough, at first I was living in South Central then I moved to the valley. I was bouncing around a lot, staying in different Airbnb. Anxiety started to kick in as well, but I just kept working and kept focused on what I came out here to do.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dunk Rock story. Tell us more about the business.
As a producer, I make beats and get in the studio with different artists. I like to think the strong point of my production is my melodies. I like to create unique melodies and merge them with trap drums. I also play guitar so incorporating living guitar into my production. I believe it also sets me apart from the majority of producers.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck in the world of getting placements is very real. I think you create your own luck by being consistent, the more shots you take, the better chance you have.

Plus being in LA, you never know who you might run into on the street or in a club. It could be the person that could change your life, I’ve met lots of really successful people just by showing up to different events and being lucky enough to connect with them.
