Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Lam.
Candace, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was engaged in 2012, and while planning my own wedding, I actually got fired from my previous job because I stepped up to express my thoughts with my boss. At that time, I was feeling a bit lost because I needed money to pay for my own wedding and living. After sobbing for a few hours, I recalled the moment that I was stuck in traffic while sitting in my car.
The moment I asked myself what do I want? I gathered my thoughts the same night and calculated how much money I have in savings, start doing research on how to plan my own wedding. I felt like once I am able to plan my own wedding, I can plan many more people’s weddings.
I think I had spent almost 3 months writing up my business plan, taking a wedding planning certified course, building my website on my own and reach out to venues/hotels, telling everyone on FB that I am going to be a wedding planner!
By the end of 2012, I established my company- Love Is Sweet Events.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a very interesting experience; there are a lot of ups and downs. I have received so much support from my family, friends, clients and our vendors. I have a small group of friends, but they are my really close with me, they lift me up and provide advices no matter I am in a good or bad situation.
My family babysits my son during the weekends so I can fully focus on working at events, my husband is very supportive, and sometimes, I am short on staff, and he volunteers to assist me with wedding set-up.
There are definitely challenges as I build and expand my business, I had encountered lawsuit right after I gave birth to my son. It was sad and stressful because I didn’t want to have that kind of experience with any of my clients, but I also need to protect myself and my business and my employees to ensure we received justice and fairness at the end…
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Love Is Sweet Events – what should we know?
Love is Sweet Events is a special event and wedding design company, based in Los Angeles, California. We specialize in weddings, and we are expanding our company so much that we are doing many corporate event anniversary and parties.
I am the most proud of my staffs, and I always ensure they are being appreciated by me and our clients.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Wow… this list will take up the entire page I think. : )
First of all, I can’t have today’s success without my parents, because they are the one who brought me to the world. I thank my husband for being so supportive; I appreciate my friends who always have my back and lift me up.
I love my team because, without them, they are the most important to my company. I thank my current and previous clients who have trusted me, and we have built a very solid relationship through the wedding planning process. I also listen to inspirational Podcast a such as Tony Robbins, Lewis Howes, Tom Bilyeu.
Recently, I watched a lot of content from Jay Shetty. I can’t stop listening or watching Jay Shetty’s content, and his word of wisdom is powerful. “When nobody else celebrates you, learn to celebrate yourself. When nobody else compliments you, then compliment yourself. It’s not up to other people to keep you encouraged. It’s up to you. Encouragement should come from the inside.” – Jay Shetty
I learn to meditate and wake up every morning with gratitude. Focus on myself and work on my inner peace to be grounded. I learn to go 3 times deeper, 3 times further and 3 times more to service people, and I see that being an event planner is a gift from God because I am able to make their dream wedding come true, create the most memorable day in their life that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
