Lou, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Marconda’s Meats is a family-owned and operated butcher and meat market, specializing in natural, premium meats and located in the Los Angeles Farmers Market. We opened in 1941, selling mostly ground meats and sausages, and to this day we still make our original meat loaves and a wide variety of sausages. On most days, you can find two or three generations of our family working together at the market, always ready to serve you with a smile.
At Marconda’s, we value family, tradition, and high quality, natural meats. We offer USDA prime beef and prime lamb, as well as all-natural Piedmontese beef, Niman Ranch Pork, tender delicious Kobe-style Wagyu Beef and grass-fed. Besides offering some of the best meat on the market, we strive to provide you with good old butcher service. We do special blends of meat, special cuts for various thickness, trimming, and wrapping, all according to your specific needs. We also offer some of the best poultry available. We believe in meats and poultry that are raised humanely and sustainably as well as free from antibiotics. We here at Marconda’s Meats work hard to make sure our customers are satisfied.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any small business, many outside forces can put a strain on the profits. We have always been able to overcome these so far. This is why we have been trying to make our meats available in other ways than walking up to the store counter.
Please tell us about Marconda’s Meats and Puritan Poultry.
We are one of few places in California where you can actually find Tender Delicious USDA. Prime beef raised without the use of Antibiotics Sustainably farmed and humanely raised. Most prime beef suppliers can not say this. It’s hard enough to find Prime beef to begin with but to actually find healthy Prime beef is even better. We also carry a variety of grass-fed roasts, steaks and ground meats. For those who love Kobe, we carry Wagyu beef too. Most of these items are hard to find. We also make great sausages and meat loaves that taste like they used to back in the good ol’ days. We still make them the old school way. Lamb, beef, pork, veal and Cage free Antibiotic free poultry. We are not selling the least expensive but we are selling the best available at a very tasteful price.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
As it relates to the store it would be coming down to the market with my dad to pack up pet food. I thought I was the best help but thinking back I was just getting to know the crew.
