Meet Lorie Lau of H & L Lovely Creations in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorie Lau.

Lorie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been in love with planning and organizing things, I would consistently help my family, friends, and neighbors set up their events, I would volunteer my time to assist with the event planning at the schools around my house, churches and some local businesses. I knew I enjoyed it very much and that it was my passion. However, I didn’t pursue it as a career until many years later.

I got my BBA, and 2 Minors, one in Finance, and another one in Medical Billing, and after working for over 13 years on those fields, I decided I to finally go for my dream. We officially started back in 2016 when my husband proposed to me and we wanted to plan our wedding together; hence the name of our company. (H & L are our initials)

H & L Lovely Creations was born out of the idea to help couples plan their special day by indulging them with services of excellence and elite vendors to make their planning journey unique, enjoyable and beautiful. We believe planning is the foundation to a perfect wedding or event. We’ve walked that road on our own, so we know what is it like and we give our heartfelt commitment to go above and beyond to deliver an unparalleled wedding and planning experience to all the couples and clients that we get in touch with.

We just love to help people!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing is completely smooth in life, and to be honest, that’s the beauty of it. We take every opportunity as a learning experience, as a new challenge, and as a new goal. We work as a team and we stay as a team.

That saying “the struggle is real”, it’s true!

Over the years, we’ve had our highs and lows in the wedding industry. There have been countless great times, but admittedly, there have also been some… not-so-great times. The thing is, whether our experience was good or bad, they were all moments that helped us learn how to be better at what we do! No wedding planning course can prepare you for every situation. This is just a fact. A wedding planning course can help guide you, but you will not always know how to handle a given scenario until you’re actually in the trenches, doing the work.

And this happened recently, actually, in light of all the border travel restrictions brought on by COVID-19. Our clients were having a destination wedding in Mexico. The family was coming from the UK to the US for a week before departing to Mexico for the wedding festivities. The family arrived and within days, restrictions were put in place, and flights were canceled to Mexico.

Obviously, this kind of situation would be completely devastating for any couple. Think about it: not only could they not travel abroad as they’d planned, but their family had already traveled such a long way… for a wedding that couldn’t even happen anymore!

After lots of teary-eyed phone calls, the couple wanted to have a local wedding on the original wedding day. Their family was there, after all, so they figured, ‘Why not make the most of it?’ In less than a week, we made that happen. We hired new vendors and had a micro-wedding at the couple’s home. One perk to this happening was that guests who couldn’t originally attend the wedding were now able to watch it live, via Zoom.

It was the most challenging wedding to do in such little time, but I am so glad we were able to make it happen. It was truly magical – and even better that they still had their dream day, despite the circumstances. Sure, it wasn’t exactly Mexico on the beach, but Plan B was still pretty terrific!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with H & L Lovely Creations – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We are a fine art planning and design boutique based in Southern California, able to create bespoke stunning celebrations in the States and also abroad.

We specialize in working with engaged couples to explore and find their wedding aesthetic and vision, making sure all the pieces are taken care of.

Our personal approach to the weddings we work on is to curate an atmosphere of romance and elegance while being rooted in simplicity. Our desire is to work with couples who are aesthetically motivated and deeply in love. We’ve been creatively setting up memorable weddings since 2016, offering a tailored approach to your next event.

We set ourselves apart by providing undivided attention to our couples, from the moment we meet until the moment you say I do.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We have so many good things coming on and we can’t wait to tell you all about it!

We are revamping our website and rebranding. It’s kind of like getting a hair cut or dying your hair; we thought is time for a “new look”.

We are also remodeling our showroom for our client and bridal consultations, it’s going to have so many great things that I am sure I wouldn’t want to get out of there. Once the remodel is done, we want to have a “surprise reveal” party for it, so stay tuned!

Those are just a few of our future projects.
