Meet Lorène Catala Boisvert of BioSmile Dentistry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorène Catala Boisvert.

Hi Lorène, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Yes of course, thank you for having me!  My new dental clinic in Santa Monica was built during the Covid-19 pandemic. After years of sharing space with other dental practitioners it was time for me to open my own suite. Back in July 2019, I found a place that was leasing. I had a clear vision about how we could transform this suite and take advantage of the beautiful wide windows to bring more natural light in. After talking to an architect and a contractor, I realized that this project would require a total make-over. I was told it would take more time than originally expected. Instead of Dec 1st, 2019 we ended up moving in a year later!

During the few months it was pushed, I realized it was necessary for me to define my new practice and find my voice as a new business owner. I worked with a whole team of designers to come up with the style, colors, and the atmosphere that I wanted to create for our patients. I named my practice BioSmile Dentistry. We then designed our logo and our website. After already being specialized in biomimetic dentistry for many years, I became board certified in biological dentistry by the IABDM and as a phlebotomist. As a result of this, I could then start incorporating ozone and PRF in my practice, as well as remove amalgams safely for our patients, our team, and the environment.

I am now working on getting board certified by the IAOMT, which will recognize our office as safe and non-toxic while incorporating innovative ways to practice.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a practice from scratch is never a smooth road; we have to believe in ourselves, our philosophy, work hard, and hope that everything will work out! I went in the fields of dentistry that I am passionate about in order to reach higher goals. I challenged myself by taking advanced continuing education classes, including Invisalign orthodontic therapy and dental surgery. This was needed so that I could start taking on more challenging cases. I learned how to place ceramic implants so that our patients could benefit from this holistic approach. I also learned to incorporate ozone, i-PRF, and L-PRF in surgery to enhance healing after an extraction or a bone graft.

I would say that the hardest part of this experience was to build a stable motivated team during the Covid-19 pandemic after the office was built and defined. Now that we have our ongoing team members, it has been a pleasure to practice and grow together in the peaceful environment that we created!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Yes of course! BioSmile stands for BIOmimetic and BIOlogical; BIO means “life”: our main goal here at BioSmile Dentistry is to keep teeth alive while creating vibrant smiles!

We are an aesthetically oriented dental office in which we design smiles with Invisalign, innovative dental surgery, safe teeth whitening, and conservative cosmetic dentistry. We are a full-service dental practice, and we care deeply for our patients. We perform daily dental procedures that aim to preserve as much tooth structure as possible while being highly esthetic and non-toxic. We do restorative dentistry with BPA-free esthetic composites and Emax/Zirconia inlays/onlays/crowns. We are known for our conservative caring esthetic approach, which is called “biomimetic”.

What sets us apart from other practices is our philosophy of work and our environment. Our brand-new office is calm, warm, and welcoming. We draw blood ourselves at the office, which allows us to use our patients’ own stem cells with PRF to enhance healing after surgery. We use Ozone therapy in restorative dentistry, which helps us keep challenging teeth alive. We perform surgical procedures in a safe, and calm, special dedicated operatory room in which we place ceramic dental implants. We use only non-toxic materials, which defines us as “biological”.

Our office is equipped with cutting-edge technology including a CBCT scan, digital X-rays (which cuts radiation tremendously), a laser, and a special light that helps us diagnose oral cancer at a very early stage.

Brand wise we are proud of our office culture and the way we treat our patients. We also often run promotions to give back and help our patients design the smile of their dreams!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Life sometimes has its own way of working itself out, despite the difficulties we encounter as humans. Going through extreme hardships in my personal life pushed me to look deeply into what I wanted to do with my life, both personally and professionally. This helped me move forward and become the business owner of this great dental practice that I have always dreamed of. I guess bad luck in life eventually brought me good luck!
