Meet Lorena Monarrez of Via Dolce Salon in West Side

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorena Monarrez.

Lorena, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After 10 years of developing my skills as a hairstylist in Los Angeles, Miami, and NY, I opened a private space called Via Dolce Salon with the intention of creating an elegant, intimate and inviting salon for my discerning, high-profile clientele.

The location? We are nestled in the chic Latitude 33 building on Washington Boulevard, just steps from the sparkling Pacific Ocean.

My mission statement was to create a high-end salon, with a beachy laid back west side vibe!

5 years on, we are still standing, have an excellent rating on the sites you need to be highly rated on and 2017 promises to be our most interesting and exciting yet!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been an amazing ride, full of hard work, ups and downs, left and rights! And probably half a million blow drys!

I think the hardest thing has been the work/life balance. There have been periods where I have struggled to remember that I have a life outside the salon!

Thankfully, I recently got engaged to a wonderful man who has reminded me of the importance of enjoying my life away from work.

Regrets? I’ve had a few. But it’s made me who I am today as a person and as a business owner!

I have learned so much. Nothing could have prepared me for it. I feel like I have an MBA in business, except, this wasn’t school, this was real life!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Via Dolce Salon – what should we know?
When I was looking for areas to open my business 5-6 years ago, I noticed that there seemed to be a gap in the market for luxury hair care in Marina Del Rey.

I believe we have filled that gap and garnered a reputation as purveyors of luxury hair care without the pretension typical of other high-end salons.

I want my clients to enter a relaxed, warm environment, and leave, feeling empowered, sexy & ready to take on whatever life throws at them!

Again, you would have to ask them if that’s the case, but that’s always been my objective.

I’m most proud of the fact that I have amazing clients, from CEOs of Virtual Reality companies to West Side Moms and even an A-Lister who helps rescue women who are trafficked through SE Asia. My clients truly inspire me, and I’m extremely grateful that they choose to come and spend their time and money in my space.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Hard work! Without it, I wouldn’t be where I am today! Period.
