Meet Long Beach Makeup Artist: April Bautista

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Bautista.

April worked in a salon for about eight years and says, “even though I loved my salon family and clientele, it became routine and i needed a challenge.”  April enrolled at Makeup Designory in Burbank to learn special fx makeup.  She moved in with her parents at 27 years oldm since MUD didn’t offer part-time/night classes and worked at night/weekends for six months.

“I sacrificed sleep (roughly getting 3-5 hours each night), a social life, and independence all to gamble of what was to come. At the time, I wasn’t sure if any of it would pay off. After spending a few months of doing test shoots as if it were a full-time job, I finally was able to put together a portfolio to send to agencies. What I thought was the end of my struggle was only the beginning.”

April started working with a fashion photographer and fell in love with the world of Fashion.  She connected with an Agency and one of her agents helped her connect with Cristina Perri, with whom she went on tour and has been working with ever since.  Working with Cristina opened many doors for April and has allowed her to thrive within the LA makeup and beauty scene.  What impressed us most about April was her approach to makeup; rather than aiming for complete glam transformations, she tries to enhance the natural strengths of her clients to boost their self-confidence.
