Meet Lizzie Peirce

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizzie Peirce.

Hi Lizzie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a business owner & content creator from Toronto, Canada (born and raised, baby). I am a graduate of the prestigious RTA School of Media at Ryerson University, and I left my full-time job at a Toronto Production Company to build my own business – Know Hau Media Operations Inc. with fellow YouTuber (who also happens to be my hubby) Chris Hau. Some of our clients include Corona, Toyota, Mercedes Benz, Meridian Credit Union, and The Scotland Tourism Board.

Taking my experience as a Producer/Director in the corporate world and combining it with my skills as a Photographer and Cinematographer, I created my own company – Aluna Media and began producing content on YouTube, ranging from short films to educational photography and video tutorials. I also love to throw in the fun vlog and couple’s Q&A here and there. My aim is to inspire young creators to start their own creative businesses and help provide them with the tips and tools to do so.

I have accumulated a combined audience of over 300,000 followers/subscribers and continue to partner with some of my fav brands including Adobe, Google, and Travel Alberta. I love to travel all over the world sharing my adventures and spreading my mantra, “If she can do it – I can do it”.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. Running your own business has its challenges and frustrating moments. It takes a unique personality type to wake up and decide to push through it. You’ve got to be ok with making mistakes and teaching yourself to learn from them.

The most challenging obstacles are internal. Imposter syndrome is a big one. We can be so hurtful and discouraging to ourselves. It takes a lot of effort to overcome that. Therapy has been extremely helpful in my personal life and professional life. It’s really helped me to prioritize what’s important to me and what really matters. A focused and peaceful mind is extremely important to show up for yourself every day.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Video Producer, YouTuber, and Photographer from Toronto, Canada. I primarily produce corporate and commercial content for businesses, brands, and tourism boards. Online I teach video and photography tutorials with the occasional short film or vlog. I believe what sets me apart is my focus on inspiring and teaching others how to start their own creative business. I am transparent through my personality and my lifestyle. I think it’s relatable for people to see someone like them already doing what it is they’d like to be doing more of. As an advocate for young women in the film/photography space, I felt it was a personality that was lacking in the space. I’m the first one to admit I’m not perfect and no one is the BEST at anything- but that doesn’t mean you should hold yourself back.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Diversify your income as much as possible. If you work for yourself or are striving too – it’s so important to have a variety of products and services you offer. Especially those that live online. I’m incredibly grateful and lucky to say that my business has not only survived during the pandemic – but it has thrived. If I didn’t have a strong online brand presence, it would’ve been a completely different story.
