Meet Lizzie Green of Popix Designs in Malibu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizzie Green.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lizzie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Originally from Northern California, I moved to Los Angeles in 2009 to study Visual Communications at FIDM. After graduating FIDM, I worked in fashion for a couple of years. My love for interior design really began to flourish after my husband and I purchased our first home in Malibu. We began renovating it, taking on one project at a time. I quickly found myself learning everything I could about interior design, and I soon got a job for a well known interior designer who I really admired.

Yearning for more creative freedom and inspired by my husband who runs his own business, I decided to start my own interior design studio, Popix Designs and proceeded full throttle. I got my first few small projects largely through referrals and used these to begin building my portfolio. One project led to another, and despite the many challenges I faced early on, the passion I had for interior design is what carried me through.

One of the keys to success was that I realized I could harness the power of Instagram as a marketing tool to help build a following and showcase both my professional work and design style. It helped me engage with a community of like-minded designers and put a face to the business. Projects would sometimes come through DMs and I enjoyed being able to share my work.

Whilst studying at FIDM, I learned how to sketch, draft, and use programs such as Photoshop and Sketch-up – many skills that I still use today. Despite starting small, I am now versed in interior design and styling. I have worked with a variety of clients and projects ranging from single bedroom makeovers to full kitchen remodels.

What I love about my job more than anything is being able to help people. My clients often come to me with a problem or a vision, but no idea how to solve the problem, or execute the vision. I love the feeling I get when I see my clients walk into their newly designed home. The smile on their faces and their gratitude for my service is what truly fuels my soul!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I first started my business, I was doing it part-time as I took care of my two daughters. Poppy was in pre-school and Pixie was at home with me most days. Finding time to work on my business wasn’t always easy. There were many nights where I had to stay up late, working into the early morning. My passion for interior design is what really carried me through.

Please tell us about Popix Designs.
Popix Designs is a boutique interior design studio that is based in Malibu, California. We focus on residential renovations, interior design, decorating, and E-design. Lizzie Green is the owner and head designer of Popix Designs.

Lizzie’s California style encompasses a blend of Mid-century modern and contemporary design. She loves to layer texture, mix patterns, and play with shapes and colors. With a focus on quality, a love for vintage, and her attention to detail, Lizzie instills her own personal style into every project while keeping her client’s wishes in mind. Lizzie has a joyful approach to everything she does, and she values the relationships she builds with her clients. Her ultimate goal is to make her client’s homes feel warm and inviting so that they are happy every time they come home.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
One of the most important lessons I have learned is that there is enough success to go around for everyone. I live in a city full of people who have the same career as I do, with as much passion as I have. If I compare myself to others or let myself feel jealous, I get distracted and can’t focus on my own path. Through guided meditation Opera and Deepak have taught me that we live in a world of abundance. When we are grateful and appreciate what we have, we open the door to even more abundance.
