Meet Lizette Espinosa Veneziano of infanttech

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizette Espinosa Veneziano.

Lizette, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am an immigrant from Mexico and came with my family (my parents, three brothers and one sister) to California when I was five years old. I have had a series of phases in my life that led me to many different experiences that I never would have imagined. It has allowed me to become a student of life- learning from each experience (even if seemingly unrelated) to take me to the next level.

I grew up in the little city of Azusa, California where I went to public school. Through hard work, I was able to attend and graduate from USC in Los Angeles, California. I started as an engineering major but graduated with a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Public Policy. I was even a White House intern during the Clinton Administration during my last year at USC. And yes, when I came home, the Lewinsky intern scandal was the buzz of the town- so putting this experience on my resume became a little funny.

The biggest lesson of being a White House intern was the day I was sitting in the West Wing at my desk, and I flashed back to sitting at my desk in my 4th-grade classroom. It was a strange experience, but I realized then, that I didn’t have to figure everything out in life because opportunities would always be there. It was my choice to take them or not. I had never planned on being an intern or being in DC, but there I was, and it was life changing!

After graduating from USC, I went to work at Univision in Los Angeles at KMEX-TV. I worked in marketing and sales and had so much fun meeting talent and working for a big corporation. There I had a boss that loved what she did, and it made me soul search to get to another level. I decided to go to law school because I realized it had been something I had pushed out of my thoughts for a long time. I was afraid of standardized tests and thought I couldn’t get in.

So at 28 years old, I said, “I should have been a lawyer!” With application deadlines looming, I applied that summer. The following May I was a student at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Law school was amazing. I graduated from Loyola and passed the bar on my first try. I was determined not to take that three-day exam more than once!

Early in my law career, I met a senior partner who introduced me to some teaching methods that changed my life. They are called “transformational” work. The easiest way to describe it is Tony Robbins type of thinking. These teachings changed my life because it made me look at things with such a different perspective- I became a bigger risk taker, and I began to worry less about things.

Has it been a smooth road?
My soul searching in law led me to work for a firm that stretched me in so many different directions. I worked in immigration, contracts, litigation, appellate work, and eventually left to work for a land developer in Irvine, California. I became the Vice President of Dispositions, basically a sales position. There I was in my early thirty’s making $100k, just bought a home in Long Beach that was on Ocean Blvd, and driving around in my Mercedes. This was in 2006-7, and it was when the housing bubble hit.

When the bubble hit, I lost it all! I was laid off, I lost my home, my car, my relationship at the time. 2008 became my rebuilding year. I have to say that my biggest lesson here was that in the midst of “losing it all,” I realized I had everything I needed. I had a family that I could count on. I had a roof over my head (at my brother’s house), and even though I lost my car- I could take the train. And, I had my legal license to fall back on. I began temp work and then eventually opened my own law practice, where I worked on business contracts and practiced litigation.

At the end of 2008, I met Giuseppe on eharmony. It is amazing how many different people we are connected by. When everyone says six degrees of separation, Giuseppe and I are two degrees! We were married within a year of meeting each other in 2009. And we had our first son, Ezio in December 2010. And our daughter Anasofia was born in 2013.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I always joke around and say that Infanttech is our third baby. It wouldn’t exist without Giuseppe and I being together and for the fact that we became parents. By the time Anasofia was born, it was exciting to actually use our zooby monitor with her! It’s exciting that Giuseppe and I are building this business together.

Like the time that I had my flashback at the White House- I realized that this is an opportunity that presented itself to us. We saw the opportunity, and we decided to take it. It has definitely been an interesting ride so far, full of ups and downs, successes and misses. But through it all, we are seeing the results and are committed to make infanttech a household name for all parents. We began this year with our zooby Car and Home Baby Monitor being awarded a NAPAA seal and honored to have received the recognition for its design and safety function.

At infanttech, we are passionate about saving babies’ lives and keeping every family member safe. zooby addresses a parent’s anxiety to see their rear-facing baby while driving, bringing them peace of mind without having to turn around and lose sight of the road. We feel the zooby video monitor is so unique because of the use in the car- it’s the only baby monitor with this portability and is crash test approved!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a great place to start a business in general. There are so many resources for anyone to find the right contacts that they need to get them started and moving. You need to trust that you will be led to the right people that can support you in your particular industry. This is a great city simply for the abundance of talent and skills that you will find here. Yes, I would absolutely recommend someone to start here!

What a great product. I think it would be a great gift for a baby shower. They are so cute. I would think that babies would be attracted to the color and as they get older they would like the stuffed animal. Do you get them through the website or is it available in stores?
