Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizbeth Vargas.
Lizbeth, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated from beauty school in 2010. Being undocumented and not being allowed to get my cosmetology license or work at a salon lead me to work from home. I lived in a one-bedroom apartment with my mom dad and sister. I took over the room and my dad built me a vanity. I started taking clients and doing hair I also did a lot of house calls. Two years later, I moved out and rented out a work and live at home studio.
In that year, Daca was approved which I applied for and that helped me get a work permit and opened the doors. I was able to get my cosmetology license. I worked at a salon in the valley which was pretty far but I loved their work and knew I could learn more being in a salon. I stayed there for five months and found a salon closer to home. I worked at world-famous Giuseppe Franco Salon in Beverly Hills. I was a commission stylist for one year then decided to rent. There was days I felt I didn’t meet my goal to pay for rent. On a Sunday, I walked through my neighborhood in echo park and found a cute storefront location. I called and asked for details on rent and leasing it. Lv Blow n style is what I call my new home and my salon. Built four stations in a 500 sq location and I now have five renters and commission stylists (not everyone works the same days). My salon turns four years this September.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There has been a lot of struggles. First of all, I was never taught how to run a business. I’ve always just worked and also finding the right stylist who are talented and love the craft as much as I do. The first year was the hardest. I now have amazing talented stylists who love and support each other. 2020 due to vivid I can say I felt scared to lose everything I worked so hard for.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lv Blow n’ Style story. Tell us more about the business.
I originally started my salon as a blow dry salon and I figured I would stay in Beverly Hills and come back and forth. The salon was so slow and I started taking my color clients and left my previous salon. I specialize in color, cuts & extensions. I’m known for balayage techniques & I also specialize in fantasy colors. I have always wanted to work with company’s and so far I’ve filmed a couple of YouTube videos with several companies that has always been a dream of mine and I’m very proud it’s becoming reality.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The good luck was dating a contractor that helped a lot with the whole salon remodel. And also, he taught me everything about the business.
