Meet Lisa and Carlo Sayo of Empower Physical Therapy and Wellness in Chino Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa and Carlo Sayo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lisa and Carlo. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We worked in a hospital and private settings as an Occupational Therapist (Lisa) and a Physical Therapist (Carlo) for about 10 years. We are married with 3 children ages 9, 7, and 4. We wanted our own clinic where we could really help patients make better decisions about their health. October 2015, we took that step and started making our dream a reality. On March 31st, 2016 we opened our doors and started helping people feel stronger and more confident in doing the things they love to do without pain medication and avoiding surgery. We have made a fun but professional environment that patients and clients love to go to. They always say that they feel like they are coming to see family when they step into our clinic and we are so glad because we feel that this clinic is an extension of our family. Carlo has his doctorate in physical therapy from USC and an orthopedic clinic specialist certification and works in with patients with orthopedic issues such as back, knee, and shoulder pain. Lisa has her Master’s in Occupational Therapy from USC and works in the field of pediatrics and women’s health.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always struggles in business. Especially for us as a husband and wife team with 3 children to take care of. We both left our steady jobs to open a clinic together. That was the first scary part. Then having 3 children to take care of while doing the business aspect of things made it difficult to balance business and family time. However, we made it work and still are always striving to balance work and play. We made it a point not to open on the weekends, so that the weekends are all family time. People always tell us that it must be hard to work with your spouse but we believe we compliment each other and that is why it works! We both have the passion to help others and are very grateful to be in the position where we can.

Please tell us about Empower Physical Therapy and Wellness.
We help people make better decisions about their health. We help people in Chino Hills and the surrounding areas feel stronger and more confident in doing the things they love to do without pain medications and avoiding surgery even if they’ve suffered for years!

Dr. Carlo Sayo specializes in out-patient orthopedic physical therapy with issues such as back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, foot pain, etc.

Lisa Patel Sayo specializes in pediatrics working with children with fine motor difficulties and woman’s health working with women who have incontinence/pelvic floor issues.

We are most proud of being able to have an environment where we exude our core values: “People first, patient second., creating a “wow” experience, and consistently attentive to patient and staff needs” (these are just a few, there 7 more)

What sets us apart from others? We offer free non-committal phone or in-person consultations for people to talk to us beforehand because we know that people sometimes don’t know if we can help them and this helps them learn what we are about and if we can help them so they can make a better decision about their health needs. We also offer free tips on how to help with back, neck, shoulder, or knee issues on our website.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If we could start over, we probably would have established this sooner (before kids) than later. LOL. But honestly, we weren’t in the right mindset when we were younger. As parent’s we can relate to our patients better.
