Meet Lisa Klein, Speech Therapy Specialist in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Klein.

Tell us about your business/company. What you do, what do specialize in, and what sets you apart from the others?
Speech therapy is a very broad spectrum. There are many diagnoses a therapist can treat. My practice predominately works with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), ASD (Autsim Spectrum Disorder), Trisomy 21, children and adults with Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders and Traumatic Bran Injury (TBI).

I treat a variety of children and adults, however, people frequently ask  “What is CAS?” Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder that first becomes apparent as a child is learning to speak. They have the words in their heads and know what they want to say, but are not able to produce the words clearly. It’s challenging for the children and families, but we celebrate every sound and word.

I’m am a firm believer in a team approach – working together with other professionals, such as occupational therapists, physical therapists, neurologists, dentists, orthodontists, teachers and most importantly the families, to ensure the proper diagnosis and treatment for every individual client. Being able to implement all I learned and see it come to life with actual changes in the person I am treating, is beyond rewarding.

I believe what sets me apart is the blood, sweat and tears I put into each and every session. I absolutely love what I do, and there’s nothing more fulfilling to see the work make significant changes in a person’s life. I’m constantly inspired and motivated to learn, grow and challenge myself.

Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I moved twice due to my husband’s job relocation, and have opened and closed two successful private practices. I opened my new private practice almost five years ago in Santa Monica – a place where I had no connections – and basically started over again. Now that I have my new long-term home, I have started establishing relationships with local therapists, doctors and families and have a thriving practice.

What are your plans for the future?
The biggest priority in my career is continuing to learn and evolve by incorporating new experiences and certifications to my own practice, and providing clients with the absolute best hands-on speech therapy.

We as parents, therapists and educators continue to raise awareness and funding for all our children. Taking the time to give back and support my community is a marker for success. CASANA (The childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America) funds research, and provides education and scholarships for communication devices and therapy for children with Apraxia. Donations assist families pay for the endless therapies to help their children become independent communicators.
