Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Dohner.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I worked in Hollywood for 20 years. One day I got fired and said to myself “I’m never working for anyone else again.” Six months later I opened PREP my retail kitchen wares and cooking classes store. That was in 2004 and we have grown substantially through the years.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Owning a small business is never a smooth road. The 2008 recession was a very, very hard time and the higher end business never returned since then. A small business owner is constantly promoting the business, you can never take a break from this duty.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with PREP Kitchen Essentials – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a retail store that sells quality kitchen wares and we also offer cooking classes to the general public. We sell kitchen tools that last, not disposable kitchen wares or products that don’t work or that don’t last. That is what we are known for. If you buy it at PREP, you should never have to buy it again. We rigorously test the products we sell in our cooking classes. We are very proud of that as a company. We provide excellent customer service as all of our staff members are highly knowledgeable in the area of kitchen wares and especially the products we sell. We serve our community. We teach adults and kids how to cook. All of these things set us apart from big-box stores.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are set up to franchise our dual revenue concept of cooking classes plus retail kitchen wares. We are hoping to establish our first franchise outlets in Southern and Central California.
