Meet Lisa Cera and Tyler McDaniel of Lisa and Tyler J

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Cera and Tyler McDaniel.

Lisa and Tyler, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We met in early 2016, in a Los Angeles showroom while pulling for different projects. Funny enough, for the next several months, we continuously ran into each at runway shows and red carpet events in Los Angeles and New York. We realized that fate was pushing us together at a time when we were both looking for a styling partner.

After a meeting of the minds, we realized we had the most important key elements in maintaining a successful partnership. Our work ethic, dreams, and passions were identical. Another bonus… our personalities meshed perfectly. We’re constantly laughing, we’re easy going and at the end of the day, you can find us at the local Mexican restaurant having chips, salsa, and skinny margaritas… keyword, skinny.

Tyler moved to Los Angeles in 2014, with a background in fashion photography and shortly after, transitioned his career to his passion as a celebrity stylist. His career from the get-go moved so quickly it was hard to keep up with the pace, so the idea of partnering up with Lisa was a no-brainer

Lisa had been an established East Coast stylist for 17 years, working in advertising and the celebrity world, when she decided to move to Los Angeles in 2014 to pursue her dream of being on the Cover of the March Issue of the Hollywood Reporter as one of the top 25 most powerful stylists and tastemakers.

It was in Los Angeles where she began the search for a styling partner; a male counterpart who shared the same drive, ambition, and creative diversity that she had.

This is the dynamic that has provided an inherent and essential element to our work and the relationships we have with each of our clients. We’ve been partnered as a Celebrity Fashion Styling Duo, Lisa and Tyler J, for two and a half years and it’s been an incredibly exciting journey and pure synergy since day one.

Has it been a smooth road?
We’d love to tell you some crazy and dramatic stories about our journey so far, but the truth is it’s been a pretty awesome ride. That’s not to say we don’t have our oh sh*t moments. We just have each other’s backs.

Honestly, the worst thing that gets in the way is our petty arguments over unimportant things. We’ve definitely had a brother/sister relationship from the get go and people tell us were like an old married couple, lol.

We’re really nerdy in the sense that we’ll go about an hour not talking to each other because of some silly argument over who said what and how we each remember what actually happened. Then either Tyler brings Lisa flowers or Lisa brings Tyler food depending on who was the biggest jerk.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
We’re fashion stylists who specialize in celebrity dressing. Our job as style visionaries is to create an image for our clients so that they’re the ones noticed among a multitude of celebrities. How an actress is styled is extremely important, in that her next red carpet image can be the catalyst in landing her that leading role or making her a style icon leading to major advertising campaigns.

We’re most proud of our steadfast determination, resilience, and our openness to continuously grow as fashion and style experts in our field by staying on the cutting edge. We continuously challenge our styling, in that we only settle for more. We have an undeniable commitment to each client and we uphold the standard that we’ve set for our styling, treating every single job as if it’s the most important.

There are several things that sets apart from the rest. As a team, we bring a sort of Yin and Yang in both our styling and our personalities. Our East Coast vs. West coast vibe, our female vs. male dynamic and being Gen X vs. Gen Y all play a vital role in how we work and fit together.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
First and foremost, we’d like to see an industry that is committed to sustainable practices. That’s something that is very important to us and that we hope shifts in the next 5 years.

Something we see coming is being able to purchase items online straight from the runway at lightning speed. Online shopping will be faster than ever making custom pieces and overnight delivery of the new norm. Brick and mortar will become more of a fun social experience rather than a chore.

A place like Saks Fifth Avenue would have tables and bar stools, great music playing, where strangers meet. Rather than having a store of clothing, there are samples and color swatches available with iPads that allow consumers to purchase on the spot.

Most of all, we would love to see fast fashion on the decline and become something of the past, making quality fashion rise again.
