Meet Lisa Burgos of Lisa’s Clean Creations – Meal Prep in Downtown LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Burgos.

Lisa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We all have a story, and I do believe mine started long before I knew what I was doing.

Growing up, I was extremely overweight. At 26, after losing my dad, I peaked at my heaviest (over 250lbs). I had downward spiraled and was struggling in multiple areas of my life- not just my weight.

I decided to take back some of my power and somehow ended up losing over 75 lbs. At this point, I had mastered meal prepping and being in a healthier relationship with food… and myself.

For the next couple of years, I shared my fitness journey on social media- my public fitness diary. I shared meals, recipes, clean creations, workouts, and what I believed to be a little inspiration (for my old self and any woman out there going through a similar journey).

A few years ago, I was unexpectedly laid off. Not knowing, a friend casually asked if I was selling the meals I was sharing on social media. She said, “if you make them, I’ll buy them.”

And just like that- a small business was born. By the following week, I had 75 meals ordered from friends that had never tasted my food but had been following my posts.

It’s been almost two years since this first happened, but the business is still going strong. I’ve since gone back to the same job that laid me off and continue to cook every weekend as my side hustle (which was also my income for many months last year).

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
While there have been some weekends where business is incredibly slow (holidays, summer breaks, vacations), I’ve been blessed with consistent income.

My hardest struggles have been juggling a small business, a full-time job, battling mom’s breast cancer, and still trying to be an avid hiker.

The business has always been a one-woman show, but there have been moments where I’ve spread myself too thin. Nonetheless, the meals get done and are always delivered successfully. (Yes, I deliver too!)

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lisa’s Clean Creations- Meal Prep – what should we know?
Having a meal prep business in a busy city is a blessing. I love to cook, and I have to give my mom all the credit for that. My mom has cooked for a living since she was a little girl back in Guatemala to help provide for her family.

I think establishing a relationship with clients has somehow played a big role in the consistency. I love pouring into my creations and take pride in creating a different menu every week. I offer three options on each menu, and one is always vegan. Being a past vegan and a vegetarian now makes me value the importance of having options for everyone.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mom gets most, if not all, of the credit for my business.

From day one she’s been my cheerleader, assistant, mentor, and biggest motivator.

She also unknowingly paved the way for me to follow in her footsteps, but always gave me space to make it my own.

I have a masters degree in international business, but I never imagined I’d actually end up having my own.
