Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Carse.
Lindsey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started working at a salon in Billings Montana as the towel girl/cleaning girl at 15… way cooler than working at the Dairy Queen … I fell in love with hair and the art of it and new I wanted to achieve the most I could. I looked into schools and found Vidal Sassoon in Santa Monica to be rated the number one school for hair. I saved my money and worked while going to school. I moved to Los Angeles without knowing anyone. My father who is a college basketball ball coach always told me I can do anything as long as I work hard. My emergency contact was Shaquille O’Neil at schools because he was the only person my father knew when I moved here. He coached him at LSU.
After school, I immediately got hired as an intern at Vidal Sassoon in Beverly Hills. I learned so much and can say was some of the best times of my life. I always knew I wanted to be more than just a hairstylist and that I wanted to inspire young women like my father and mother inspired me. I eventually started doing freelance and working at different salons. Eventually the opportunity came where I could purchase a small salon about a block from Rodeo. I was 25 at the time. I jumped on the opportunity asking my family for a loan to help me out. I am the youngest female in the history of Beverly Hills to open a salon. I realized very quickly it was a male dominated business and also the most competitive of markets in the world. I had a very prestigious salon owner… call me and let me know if I took any of his stylist he would break my arms and close me down. This is not a joke and I won’t mention this man’s name because I would prefer to be a bit classier than that. At the moment, I cried my eyes out scared to death, as I started doubting myself and now worried with my family’s money on the line. I am now 26 who would want to work with a no one girl at a boutique that was 500 square feet. As I grew more confident through my father and mother’s encouragement I worked 7 days a week and slowly had an amazing group of people occupying my stations. I kept this salon for 6 years until I recently decided it was time to get bigger. I moved just 2 doors down, tripled my size and now have a waiting list of stylists who want to join my shop. I have created my own product line called Fringe of Beverly Hills and have been on HSN multiple times to sell it.
I don’t believe I have done anything special and I don’t believe to ever think I am above anyone else. I keep a low profile, rarely posting on social media and rarely ever letting anyone know of my celebrity clientele. Maybe it’s the Montana in me but I don’t really care to expose those things. I do my job because I love it and I don’t work a day in my life. Anyone who works at Fringe doesn’t work for me but with me. I’m the first to grab a broom or help out.
I wake up at 6 am to ride my horse at LA equestrian center and work all day and love my life. I feel so blessed to have had such amazing opportunities that I would love for any and all people to know that if you work hard enough and believe in yourself and think positive that you can achieve anything.
My new salon that is packed with some of LA’s top stylist and carrying Balmain Hair Couture has become a major hit.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not, I have had more sleepless nights and crying episodes in the bathroom without anyone knowing. I have had more people stab me in the back and take advantage than I could ever imagine, but each time I get stronger and learn more and get tougher. Through hardships and preserving strength will build within anyone. After 7 years of owning a business, I have developed a small reputation. Which has brought me some of the most caring and amazing people.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fringe of Beverly Hills – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My salon is based on an environment that is family friendly with a luxury feel. I specialize in hair extensions and I am one of the top hair extension stylist in Beverly Hills specializing in Great lengths Hair Couture.
What set us apart is that I have a group of individuals that have at least 20 years of experience in some of the best salons in Beverly Hills. Ranging from creative directors to NYC and Paris fashion week hair designers. We all keep ourselves low key, we are all like a family yet we are all extremely talented. Bringing in some of the top hair products on the market and top stylist and ambiance makes Fringe something fresh and new to the stuffy Beverly Hills that most are used to.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best is Beverly Hills is one of the most competitive cities for hair. Which keeps you on your Toes. The only thing I dislike is that people have a misconception that you cannot ever come and do your hair in Beverly Hills unless you have a lot of money. That isn’t the case at all. It saddened me because people can experience and have their hair done with some of the best in the world and do not have to pay a car payment.
