Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Byrnes.
Lindsey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a Director and Photographer. I spent almost a 10 years at San Francisco based magazine publisher High Speed Productions, Inc. (Thrasher and Juxtapoz magazines) as a marketing and sales director and oddly enough that’s where my passion for photography grew into an obsession. I had access to a camera and film and other photographers who I looked up to. I was shooting for fun and documenting my friends, my travels and events. I never thought I’d make a career out of photography. I just kept shooting and learning as a hobby. But working at a magazine gave me opportunities to have my photos published and as soon as that happened I wanted more! Eventually, I started shooting live music and as my interest in the music scene deepened so did my rolodex of people in the music industry and I started seeing opportunities present themselves. So I said yes. My clients now include some of the biggest names in music and fashion Rolling Stone, Billboard, Nylon, Hard Rock Cafe, Chanel to name a few. My first experience directing and producing was a Thrasher skateboarding video highlighting the careers of 13 of the most influential skateboarders of all time including Tony Hawk and Danny Way. Although I ended up putting directing on hold for a long time wit eventually it became the next logical step. Most recently I directed content for Lollapolooza 2018 VR180 Livestream and I am hoping to explore the world of VR content more this year.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth, there have been many twists and turns along the way. Of course, I am a bit hesitant to discuss the struggles here as I try to stay positive as much as possible. As a freelancer, I’m always pitching my next job, bidding or working on something and sometimes when I don’t get something I want I tell myself to always go where the love is. If something feels wrong, it probably is. Not being afraid to turn down projects if they are not in line with my morals and having faith that my gut is on point.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lindsey Byrnes – what should we know?
I’m a Portrait, Lifestyle, Music Commercial Photographer and Director of music videos, promos and short form content.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking forward to some traveling coming up and a few shows that I’ll be going to this month. I’m really excited for my new Nylon cover to hit the stands.
