Meet Lindsay Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Martin.

Lindsay, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up on a farm in Upstate, NY and started playing piano when I was five years old. By the age of nine, I knew I wanted to play a different instrument. My dad introduced me to Led Zeppelin and as soon as I heard the Drums I knew instantly I wanted to play them!

Throughout high school, I was involved in rock bands, our schools jazz, symphonic and marching band, taught drum lessons and took my own private lessons as well. On the side, I had my own DJ business

When I was 18, I got accepted into the University of Southern California’s Popular Music Program. So two weeks after I graduated high school, I packed my bags, lived with a friend in LA until school started!

After a year of school, I decided it wasn’t for me so I dropped out. Since dropping out, I’ve been hustling in making my dreams come true.

I got involved in a variety of projects, volunteered at music camps, became a Drum Tech, taught lessons, performed on GLEE! and continued to work on creating a name for myself in the LA music / drum scene! Some bands I’ve performed with are DAYA, the Starbreakers, Glam Skanks, WASI and more.

I’m now currently the Drummer for Juliet Simms and were on the Rockstar Disrupt Festival Tour.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve certainly had my fair share of ups and downs!

I was born with a rare genetic skin disorder called Epidermalosis Bullosa aka EB (which basically is that I get extremely painful blisters from friction, cuts, scrapes, bug bites, using our hands and feet too much / long, sometimes even for no reason, etc. etc.

I practice super hard and intense and with that comes severe blistering on both my hands and feet… but I’ve learn to overcome and find ways to help ease the pain / heal quicker!

On the other hand… being a female musician especially a drummer I’ve had to prove myself, gaining respect of others, showing people girls can do it just as well as the guys, etc etc.

I’ve had more doors slammed in my face and opportunities crumble beneath me then I would ever imagine possible.

All and all… I’m glad all the letdowns, frustrations, setbacks, and pain happened because I truly believe it’s made me a stronger, more disciplined, driven, and better person/musician!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a Drummer!

I’ve been playing Drums for 16 years. Started off with playing in the elementary school band, taking lessons and such throughout middle school, and as soon as high school hit I knew playing Drums was what I wanted to do for a living!

I also am a drum tech (which is basically maintaining how drums sound, their tuning, putting the right gear together, cleaning, fixing broken parts, etc etc.) I also teach drums as well and volunteer at music camps as a Drum / Band instructor.

Most proud: being able to inspire up and coming female drummers… and when I have little kids coming up to me saying I was the reason why they started playing drums!

What were you like growing up?
I was very shy, kind, quiet, and mellow.

I was bullied pretty badly when I was younger … so I just kept to myself most of the time.

I’m also a twin and would always hide behind her haha.

My interests were music, motocross (I use to ride dirt bikes) and animals (huge animal lover)
